Threats from Global Warming

Global warming adds yet another stress to a Great Lakes system already struggling with aquatic invasive species, deleterious land use changes, nonpoint source pollution, toxic chemical contamination, and coastal habitat degradation/wetlands loss. Potential global warming impacts include reduced water levels (due in particular to decreased winter ice cover allowing more evaporation), increased frequency of intense storm events (altering the timing of inflows), and warmer water temperatures.

Already, Lake Superior has increased water temperatures and an earlier onset of summer stratification by about two weeks in just the past 30 years. Within another 30 years Lake Superior may be mostly ice-free in a typical winter.

The Great Lakes are about to pass last year’s record for ice cover. Lake Superior had ice well into July last year.

Michael Oppenheimer is considered a global warming authority by Congressional Democrats, because he has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.

The drought in the US during 1934 blew away all records, but it wasn’t just in the US – it was all over the world.

A survey of the threat of a world drought reveals ruinous losses by farmers in many parts of the world. There is an actual shortage of food, with young crops blasted in the ground by the scorching sunshine and thousands of cattle without pasture. The disaster is felt from the Mississippi in the United States, to the Volga, in Russia, from the Yugoslavian valleys to the Western Canadian prairies.

Only 13 years earlier, the National Academy of Sciences reported that there had been no net warming in the 20th century.

The Ministry of Truth has amazing powers at making the past disappear.

It doesn’t get much dumber than this. Temperatures in DC on June 22 and 23, 1998 were both all time records in DC at 101 and 98. Hansen and Wirth had no way of knowing that a few weeks later it would be even hotter, arranged the hearings to coincide with the record heat, and sabotaged the air conditioner in the hearing room.

But no matter how you look at, Hansen deserves credit for healing the planet with his 1988 warnings. 1988 was the last really hot summer in the US, and ended the long standing tradition of very hot US summers.
