Average temperatures in Australia peaked in 1878, with 1889 also being a very hot year.

Maximum temperatures in Australia peaked in the 1870’s, with 1878 being the hottest. Temperatures declined sharply until the 1930’s and have warmed a little since then.

Absolute maximum temperatures show a strong warming until about 1900, which is an artifact of adding hotter stations.

Minimum temperatures in Australia also peaked in 1878, but generally the trend has been upwards since the start of records. This is likely due to UHI.

Like maximum temperatures, absolute minimum temperatures increased until about 1900, due to the addition of warmer stations.

Climate experts tell us that UHI has almost no effect on the temperature record, and USHCN only corrects by 0.1 F .  The real world tells us something completely different.

The weather station at Fort Collins, Colorado is considered a good station because it has not moved, and has used the same equipment for its entire history. But something else has changed – the environment around the weather station. It used to be in the middle of a farm – now it is in the middle of a parking lot.

In 1937, the station was located in the middle of a farm,

By 1950, the area was starting to get built up.

By 1969, the city had surrounded the weather station.

Now it is in the middle of a parking lot, which was built around the time of the post 1990 spike.

When I was in Fort Collins riding my bike last week, I noticed at least 5-10 degrees F difference between open space temperatures and downtown, where the CSU weather station is located. One evening was beautiful downtown, and frigid along the Spring Creek trail.

People who claim that UHI doesn’t matter – have no idea what they are talking about. The presence of any asphalt (even a single road) in an area makes a huge difference in temperature – as any cyclist can tell you.

The 97% consensus of scientists, is 99% sure that they can’t reach consensus.

CO2 is going up super duper fast, but temperatures aren’t. What could we learn from this?

The obvious lesson is that CO2 has affected thermometers, and that they can’t be trusted any more.

Yesterday on WTOP they said the low temperature in outlying areas would be in the 50’s and mid-60’s in DC. This is impossible, because NOAA says UHI is only 0.1 degrees.

Ninety degree days used to be common in Minnesota, but they rarely happen any more. Right after Hansen’s Congressional global warming testimony in 1988, the heat disappeared.

Despite the heat disappearing, Hansen’s junk science lives on indefinitely.

‘The Met Office are saying that despite the recent concerns about the science, they are very sure about the underlying science. ‘They tell us there is a 50-50 chance we will get a 2C rise. If we pull our finger out we could prevent us moving beyond 2C but we have to act pretty soon‘.

A 2C rise could mean summers in the UK reaching 38C – a climate similar to southern France.

That kind of temperature rise would see the traditional summer deep borders full of herbaceous perennials such as lupins and delphiniums replaced with Mediterranean plans.

Summer is getting shorter at both ends in Fort Collins. The last spring snow is occurring later, and the first autumn snow is occurring earlier.

So I used my best climate science linear extrapolation, and determined that on July 17, 2800 – there will be no more summer in Fort Collins. Also interesting to note that on June 25, 1992 it snowed – due to cooling from volcanic dust after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

The frequency of 90 degree days in Indiana has plummeted over the past 12 years, with this summer being the fourth coolest on record.
