Understanding Climate Modeling

Five day forecasts are difficult, but 36,525 day forecasts are a walk in the park for climate modelers armed with supercomputers.

Learning To Think Like A Progressive

Progressives normally blame the 1934 drought on farmers, saying that they caused the Dust Bowl.

This is a fascinating theory, given that the 1934 drought covered 70% of the US, the Dust Bowl didn’t start until 1935, and it only covered a small area around the Oklahoma Panhandle.

So other than having everything wrong temporally and spatially, progressives did find yet another way to blame productive people for providing them with an essential commodity.

People’s Climate March, NYC Sept. 21

The climate change struggle, and related environmental struggles, have become more important over the last few years, and will become even more so as climate change exacerbates storms, forest fires, water stresses, fishery collapses, and other environmental problems.

People around the world, and right here in our country, increasingly feel the effects of climate change. Hundred-year storms and droughts now occur almost every year. The entire state of California is suffering from prolonged drought. Funds to fight fires are running out due to the increasing number and intensity of forest fires especially in the West.

President Obama Keeps His Promise

President Obama promised to use green energy as an excuse to make electricity prices skyrocket, and he has been true to his word.

PUEBLO, Colo. -Black Hills executives heard another earful from its customers during a hearing on its proposed rate increase.

“I’m mad as hell about these rate increases,” said Frank Soudek.

“Reasonably priced power. That’s what we’re asking for,” said Lee Gladney.

Black Hills wants to increase utility rates by 4 percent starting next year to make up for the construction cost of a wind farm in Huerfano County.

If Barack Obama Had A ….

After Trayvon Martin’s death, President Obama indicated to us (in no uncertain terms) that he evaluates crime based on the color of people’s skin. But for some reason he forgot to make a speech about this.

New York radio host Todd Pettengill is pointing to the alleged revenge killing of a 19-year-old man from Livingston, New Jersey, as evidence that “domestic terrorism is already here.” Further, he argues, the “act of jihad” is not getting nearly enough media coverage.

On his radio show this week, Pettengill called for increased focus on the murder of Brendan Tevlin, who was gunned down in June. About a month later, police arrested and charged 29-year-old Ali Muhammad Brown in connection to the murder — and he later reportedly confessed that he killed Tevlin as retribution for U.S. military actions in the Middle East.

A Double Shot Of Hiding The Decline At NASA

Ignoring all the junk science behind the temperature reconstructions, let’s have a look at the hockey stick grafted blade. Note how it starts at 1880, right after Australia’s hottest years on record.

Fig.A

Here is the current pre-1966 portion of the graph – a nice hockey stick caused no doubt by Grover Cleveland’s horse flatulence in the 1880’s

But it wasn’t always like that. NASA used to publish global surface temperatures back to 1866, which showed no net warming during the century from 1866 to 1966

Apparently Grover Cleveland’s horse wasn’t that bad after all. NASA simply hid the inconvenient pre-1880 data, because it wrecked the hockey stick.

But it is worse than it seems. NASA is not only hiding the pre-1880 warmth, but they are also tampering with the post-1880 data to increase the amount of post 1880 warming. The graph below shows how they have changed their own data over the past 15 years.

All of this wonderful data tampering has brought hundreds of billions of dollars to climate science research over the past 15 years. There must be a word for that.

UHI At A “Rural” Station In Queensland

Burketown is a very small town which would be considered rural by all standard definitions.

Maximum temperatures there show no net warming since the 1890’s.

But minimum temperatures recorded at Burketown have warmed about 1C, almost all of which occurred during a few years around 1980.

ScreenHunter_2742 Sep. 13 09.33

At first glance, Burketown looks very rural.

But closer inspection shows that the thermometer is located near a large area of asphalt.

ScreenHunter_2743 Sep. 13 09.38

No too surprising that nighttime temperatures rose, after the roads were paved.
