Between 1981 and 1987, Hansen was already quite busy cooling his own past. Blue is Hansen 1981. Black is Hansen 1987. Graphs are normalized to the most recent common five year mean in 1978.
Another way of looking at this is to normalize to 1885 five year means. 1981 in blue.
Five years ago, The Met Office announced that Scottish skiing is a thing of the past.

Bill Gray is the senior skeptic in our community. He has been a professor in the atmospheric sciences department at CSU for almost 50 years, and is considered one of the top hurricane forecasters in the world. Bill’s NOAA funding got cut off in 1993 after Al Gore’s team found out he didn’t support the orthodoxy. He now works without pay, driven by his passion to get the climate story straightened out.
Bill taught me more about weather and “climate change” in an hour today, than I had learned in my previous nearly 60 years. I will be talking more about this in the near future.
And those who believe skepticism is a big oil conspiracy – I will bite my tongue and won’t say what I really think about you. Or maybe I will.

The National Academy of Sciences just released a new temperature graph (black and brown) which has been massively altered since their 1975 report (red.) Note that they have eliminated most of the 1940-1970 cooling.

Here is why the have to eliminate the the 1940-1970 cooling and the 1940 spike. The next graph appends the post 1970 2014 data to the 1975 data, normalized to 1968. If they didn’t tamper with the data, there is no global warming since 1940.
In 1978, NOAA reported 0.5C global cooling from 1960-1965. NAS has almost completely erased that.

This graph shows the 1978 NOAA data in red, and the 2014 NAS data in black/brown. NAS has warmed 1965-1975 temperatures by about 0.3C.
From 1920 to 1950, Greenland was rapidly melting and it was getting too hot for seals.
