1982 : Hansen Said Mann-Made Global Warming Set To Begin

WARMING OF WORLD’S CLIMATE EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN THE 80’S

WASHINGTON, Jan. 6— Mankind’s activities in increasing the amount of carbon dioxide and other chemicals in the atmosphere can be expected to have a substantial warming effect on climate, with the first clear signs of the trend becoming evident within this decade, a scientist at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said here today.

The changes are in prospect because of excess carbon dioxide put into the atmosphere as humans burn coal, gas, oil and wood and cut forests for agriculture and other purposes. More recently there has also been an atmospheric buildup of methane, nitrous oxide and other chemicals as a result of agriculture and industry, said Dr. James Hansen of the space agency’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York.

1981 : Crack Government Scientists Announced That Venus Has A Thin Atmosphere

The orbiting spacecraft sampled Venus’ atmosphere from top to bottom, enabling the scientists to establish the exact amounts of sunlight absorbed at various places in the atmosphere and at the surface. Measurements of atmosphere composition, temperature profiles and radiative heating predicted Venus’ surface temperature very accurately.

Although the planet is closer to the Sun than Earth, and has a relatively thin atmosphere like Earth’s, that atmosphere consists of more than 90 percent of carbon dioxide, compared to less than four percent for Earth. Thus, the much higher percentage of carbon dioxide in Venus’ atmosphere traps much more heat radiation than does Earth.

Amazing! Scientists in 1981 almost as stupid as Hansen. Venus has an extremely thick atmosphere, and very little sunlight reaches the surface because of thick clouds. You can’t heat a greenhouse without sunlight. Hot temperatures on Venus have just about nothing to do with the greenhouse effect.

The Venus studies are believed to be important to the understanding of posssible adverse effects on Earth’s agriculture and sea levels that could result from society’s long-term use of fossil fuels, which add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

The findings, released recently by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, were made by a team of scientists from NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif., and the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Climate Scientists – In Their Fourth Decade Looking For The Missing Heat

SOME POLAR ICE MELTING LINKED TO GLOBAL HEATING By WALTER SULLIVAN

January 8, 1982

The Federal agency’s scientists cited an estimate by Dr. K.O. Emery of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution that over 40 years the seas had risen more than an inch a decade. In that period, the global warming of the previous century reversed itself, at least in northern latitudes; hence the sea-level rise is attributed to ice melting, rather than ocean expansion due to warming.

One effect of such extensive melting, the article in Science says, would be halving of the rate at which the oceans become heated. Melting ice absorbs an immense amount of heat. The scientists suggest that while a pronounced global warming may be under way, much of its effects have been hidden by the heat absorption of melting ice.

Shock News : Obama Lied* About Climate Science

A better candidate for prison, actually, would be whoever tweets under the name @BarackObama. When he Tweeted: “Ninety-seven percent of scientists agree: #climate change is real, man-made and dangerous” he was promulgating a demonstrable untruth.

No one has ever doubted that climate changes.

Pretty much everyone – probably more than 97 per cent, even – agrees that there is a degree of anthropogenic input, even it’s just the barely measurable contribution of beef cattle farts or the heat produced by cities.

But the dangerous bit? No one has come even close to demonstrating it, there is no reliable evidence for it, and very few scientists – certainly far, far fewer than 97 per cent of them – would ever stake their reputations on such a tendentious claim.

Snowball Earth In 892 Years

Antarctic sea ice has been above normal for the last 761 days, and increasing at a rate of 700,000 Manhattans per century.

Using standard climate science math, the Earth’s oceans will be completely covered with ice in 892 +/- 10.346 years, and odds of 761 consecutive days are 2^761:1 – almost as low as winning the Mega-Millions jackpot.

1983 : Snow Was A Thing Of The Past In New York

November 2, 1983

The recent forecast by the Environmental Protection Agency that a general warming of the earth’s atmosphere will occur during the next decades has sent shivers all along the East Coast.

In Florida they are afraid that the coastal cities will be submerged by the rising Atlantic Ocean. In Arizona they are wondering whether the recent floods will become a permanent feature of their climate. And in New York they are thinking of selling the city’s snowplows.

– THE GREAT PROMISE OF THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT – NYTimes.com

CO2 is a powerful and sneaky substance. Thirty years ago it caused floods in Arizona and snow-free winters in New York. Now it causes droughts in Arizona and heavy snow in New York.

The NFL did a Super Bowl XLVIII presentation in New York on Wednesday in preparation for the big game coming in — somehow — just 46 days.

By far the biggest concern with the 2014 Super Bowl, being played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, is the weather.  Gary Meyers of the New York Daily News dropped a bit of a bombshell relating to crazy weather on Twitter, too, reporting that if a “crippling snowstorm” comes into play, the NFL could move the Super Bowl date.

SO FAR, GREENHOUSE EFFECT HEATS ONLY DEBATE

By WALTER SULLIVAN

Published: October 23, 1983

‘The ice caps are melting! The ice caps are melting! The oceans are rising and we’ll all be drowned for our sins,” sang the shrill-voiced Tiny Tim some 20 years ago.

More recent warnings of sudden climatic changes still point to ice caps melting, but the cause in these scenarios is the ”greenhouse effect,” or rise in global temperature resulting from the increase of carbon dioxide in the air. Since atmospheric carbon dioxide retains heat, the theory goes, a buildup of the gas would prevent Earth from radiating heat into space.

James Hansen : 2011

Right now, we’re headed towards an ice-free planet.  That takes us through the Eemian interglacial period of about 130,000 years ago when sea levels were 15 to 20 feet higher, when temperatures had been thought to be about 1°C warmer than today.  Then we go back to the “early Pliocene, when sea level was about 25 m [82 feet] higher than today,” as NASA’s James Hansen and Makiko Sato explain
