Except over a small area, it is generally understood, the glaciers of the world are retreating to the mountains. The glacier on Mount Sermiento in South America, which descended to the sea when Darwin found it in 1836, is now separated from the shore by a vigorous growth of timber. The Jacobshaven glacier in Greenland has retreated four miles since 1850, and the East glacier in Spitzbergen is more than a mile away from its original terminal  moraine. In Scandinavia the snow- line is further up the mountains, and the glaciers have withdrawn 3,000ft. from the lowlands in a century. The Araphoe glacier in the Rocky Mountains, with characteristic American enterprise, has been melting at a rapid rate for several years.

This global retreat of glaciers was occurring during NASA’s coldest year on record. Anyone with an IQ over 30 should be able to figure out that we can’t stop glacial retreat, but sadly that doesn’t include the president or the IPCC.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Four people were killed and 63 injured when a Metro-North commuter train derailed Sunday morning in the Bronx, officials said.

All of the train’s seven cars came off the curved track about 100 feet north of the Spuyten Duyvil station around 7:20 a.m., MTA officials said. One car came to rest feet from the Harlem River.  Three of the dead were found outside the train, and one was found inside, authorities said.

The troubles for the commuter train system began May 17, when an eastbound train derailed in Bridgeport, Conn., and was hit by a westbound train, in a crash that injured 73 passengers, two engineers and a conductor. Eleven days later, track foreman Robert Luden was struck and killed by a train in West Haven, Conn.

The train was going “a lot faster” than usual as it approached the tricky bend, passenger Frank Tatulli told Channel 7. The speed limit coming into Spuyten Duyvil is 30 mph, the MTA said.

“The guy was going on one of the turns fast. I have no idea why,” said Tatulli, who rides this same train into work in Manhattan every Sunday morning. “It [the train] left them [tracks] because it went too fast.”

New York needs to limit train capacity to five cars, like they do with rifle magazines. Also they need to stop hiring drivers who use trains to play the knockout game.

Greens like Obama prefer fracking and wind farms to coal.

If they had an ounce of brains in their head, they would realize that coal is far less environmentally destructive and much more localized, than either fracking or wind farms.

But then that’s the problem. Obama and crew are dealing with less than a full a deck.

Between A.D. 450 and 1000, the weather was much warmer and drier than it is now. During that time the Northmen constantly invaded England. Mean Old Man Winter steps down from the North early: Will he stick around?

The US set nearly 1,000 record cold temps over the Thanksgiving break, suggesting to some that the Old Farmer’s Almanac may be right about its prediction of a long, bitter winter.

“Global warming caused the very cool US summer, and the very cold US winter,” writes warming skeptic and blogger Stephen Goddard, presumably with his tongue in his cheek. “It makes everything more extreme.”
