NIWA Gets An Extra Million To Lie Even More About The New Zealand Climate

Backed by a Marsden Fund grant of nearly $1 million over three years, the ambitious project will track ozone chemistry, atmospheric and oceanic currents and the weather-influencing role that is played by New Zealand’s rugged topography and the constant climate clash between land and sea.

Morgenstern says in the past few years, Kiwis living near the west coast have been getting used to more and more blustery westerly winds.

Both ozone depletion and mounting greenhouse gas emissions have buoyed these winds, accelerating and drawing them closer to the South Pole, but that trend could weaken or reverse if the ozone hole recovers.

Studying the influence of ozone on New Zealand’s climate is such a huge task that it will take the supercomputer at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa), the Wellington-based FitzRoy, to crunch the numbers.

Through it, researchers have begun to look at simulations of climate data from the early industrial era as part of a new project which aims to forecast our climate through the 21st century with as much precision as possible.

Climate Future is Blowing in the Wind – science | Stuff.co.nz

Somebody thinks the winds are blustery due to increased CO2 and decreased O3, but O3 is more powerful than CO2 and controls New Zealand’s climate and may cause the winds to stop if O3 is reversed by some unknown mechanism.

The weather couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the fact that the water around New Zealand is 2C below normal. The most important thing is that hot or cold, you always blame humans so that they will feel guilty and keep giving you money to generate more crap science, and cover all your bases by saying it could get windier or less windy – so that no one can ever show that you stole a million dollars and delivered nothing useful.

These morons can’t model the weather next week, much less understand the causes or forecast the weather in 100 years.

Every serious atmospheric physics modeler in the world will tell you that sea surface temperature is far and away the most important factor in long-term weather forecasting.

Life Imitates Art

I saw the movie Red Dawn today. The story line is that both coasts of the US have been invaded by communists and are no longer under the control of Americans – but the interior of the country is still “free America.” Basically the 2012 election map.

The highlight of the movie is a North Korean official giving a motivational speech to Spokane residents, where he says that American greed made this communist takeover inevitable. The speech recited most of Joe Romm and Bill McKibben’s main talking points.

I thought the 1984 version with Patrick Swayze was better, but I am biased because that one was filmed on the edge of the Pecos Wilderness in New Mexico – where I worked as a wilderness ranger.

Obama Finds A Model Islamist Dictator In The Middle East

This is what Obama meant by the Arab Spring – an Islamist takeover.

Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood leader ….. issued a series of measures preventing Egypt’s courts from challenging any laws or decrees passed since he assumed office in June.

The decrees prevent the courts from attempting to dissolve the upper house of parliament or the constituent assembly which is drawing up the country’s new constitution, both dominated by his Islamist allies.

The declaration came barely 24 hours after Morsi was praised by US president Barack Obama

Brilliant Scientists Says That Rising CO2 Ended The Ice Age

Must have been Mammoth farts.

The new paper by researchers in the US, Italy and Sheffield does not wholly answer these questions but shows that carbon dioxide may have led to a rise in temperature in the period studied. However, a rise in temperature also appeared to lead to an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This has serious implications for global warming today because it could mean further rises in greenhouse gas concentrations will propel faster temperature rises in “runaway”global warming.

During the periods studied for the paper, the Earth emerged from an ice age and temperatures rose by about 5 C. That is similar to the temperature rise scientists predict could occur if today’s global warming is not kept in check.

Study suggests rising CO2 in the past caused global warming | Science | guardian.co.uk

In order to get a global warming research grant, you have to demonstrate that you are at least one these three :

  1. Certifiably insane
  2. A complete moron
  3. Have no integrity or ethics

Dust Bowl Caused By La Nina And The AMO

Recent modeling work (Schubert et al. 2004a,b, Seager et al. 2005) has claimed that the Dust Bowl drought of the 1930s was forced by small changes in tropical SSTs, essentially several persistent years of La Niña-like conditions in the Pacific and a warm subtropical North Atlantic Ocean, both of which are assumed to have had natural origins. If this is so then it means that, had the SSTs been known in advance, it would have been possible to predict that the drought was to occur and, perhaps, the environmental and social catastrophe of the Dust Bowl could have been ameliorated.

Predicting the Dust Bowl

If Columbia University knows that the Dust Bowl was caused by similar conditions in the 1930s, why is James Hansen blaming the current heat and drought on CO2?

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath…..

in the U.S. there has been little temperature change in the past 50 years, the time of rapidly increasing greenhouse gases — in fact, there was a slight cooling throughout much of the country
