Obama Being Pressed To Control The Earth’s Thermostat

Barack Obama is being pressed for proof of his intent to act on climate change ahead of next week’s United Nations global warming summit in Doha.

The proof might boil down to just two words: two degrees. An early statement at Doha that America remains committed to the global goal of limiting warming to 2C above pre-industrial levels would be a clear sign.

Change Of Plans

I was planning on making a trip to west London in February to watch some EPL and Champions League football, but it looks like I will have to go to north London instead.

Roberto di Matteo learned this week why it is not necessarily a good idea to work for a team owned by a flaky Russian mafioso. Chelsea is only one point below Manchester United (thanks to Fergie’s 12th man) and there was no sane reason to get rid of the manager. They need a new striker and some fullbacks, not a new manager.

Dirty Weather In 1953

If we had weather this bad in 2012, climate scientists would see it as 97% proof of the need for taxation and sacrifice of personal freedom.

Effective Government Funded Propaganda

I have flown over Greenland about 100 times in the last 15 years. Return flights from Europe to the western US fly over southern Greenland in mid-afternoon, so you frequently get a good view of the ice sheet. I always make sure that I have a good view, because it is an amazing sight to see mountains buried under snow.

A few years ago my mother commented “It must look a lot different than it did in the 1990s” based on what she hears on NPR. I responded – “no it looks exactly the same. I can’t see any difference at all.”

Times Atlas says that 15% of the ice has melted, and NASA says that 97% of the ice melted this summer.

Dirty Weather In 1703

The Great Storm of 1703 is arguably the most severe storm or natural disaster ever recorded in the southern part of Britain. It affected southern England and the English Channel. A 120-mph (193-km/h) perfect hurricane, it started on 24 November, and did not die down until 2 December 1703.

Observers at the time recorded barometric readings as low as 973 millibars (measured by William Derham in South Essex) but it has been suggested that the storm may have deepened to 950 millibars over the Midlands.

At sea, many ships (many returning from helping the King of Spain fight the French in the War of the Spanish Succession) were wrecked, including HMS Resolution at Pevensey and on the Goodwin Sands, HMS Stirling Castle, HMS Northumberland and HMS Restoration, with about 1,500 seamen killed particularly on the Goodwins. Between 8,000 – 15,000 lives were lost overall.

Smoking Gun That USHCN Adjustments Are Fraudulent

USHCN published the graph below indicating the total size of their temperature adjustments – about 0.5 degrees and flat after 1990. I doubt that these adjustments are legitimate, but that isn’t the point of this post.

ts.ushcn_anom25_diffs_urb-raw_pg.gif (650×502)

The smoking gun is that their actual adjustments are much larger, are offset by 2.5 degrees, and that they increase exponentially after 1990 – instead of going flat as they claim.
