Trenberth’s Cluelessness Very Unlikely To Be Due To Natural Variability

Trenberth made this brilliant claim 15 years ago.

The recent evolution of ENSO, with a major new El Niño event underway in 1997, reinforces the evidence that the tendency for more El Niño and fewer La Niña events since the late 1970s is highly unusual and very unlikely to be accounted for solely by natural variability.

And now we are facing an unprecedented third straight La Nina

it would be unprecedented to see a switch back to La Niña before 2013

Nitwits At The Climate Helm

Hansen, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, and Lisa Goddard, director of the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, offered a climate science perspective during the conference, which focused on global sustainable development.

Goddard focused on drought, and the need to anticipate climate extremes and manage their effects.

She focused on a severe drought in southern Sudan, which, after two failed rainy seasons, has brought famine. It’s difficult to attribute this drought directly to global climate change, since there has been no long-term trend in the precipitation in the region.

There is no evidence that anything has changed, but we need to blame stuff on climate change to keep our funding alive.  Here is the identical story from 1949.

The experts are still talking about El Nino, even as it becomes a La Nina. They not only can’t predict the climate, they can’t even observe it properly.

This Is What Global Warming Looks Like

Goulburn residents woke to snow this morning, as did people in Katoomba, Mt Blackheath, Mt Victoria and Mittagong. There have been reports of snow in the Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands, while Canberra has received 10 centimetres.

Two major roads have been closed by the snow – The Great Western Highway in both directions at Wentworth Falls, and Bell’s Line of Road at mt Tomah. Sydney Ferries has cancelled the Manly service due to the weather, and trains and buses have also been affected.

Yesterday, South Australia witnessed a once-in-a-century October snowfall.
