August 10, 1936 – Hottest Day In Arkansas History

Temperatures today were about 20 degrees cooler than 76 years ago.

Long Term Cooling In Oklahoma

Stations with long term records show that Oklahoma maximum and minimum temperatures have been in decline since 1900.

The hottest year (by far) was 1954.

Interesting to note that Oklahoma minimum temperatures in 2011 were in the bottom ten, including the coldest Oklahoma temperature ever recorded, -31F on February 10, 2011.

Feb 10, 2011

The town of Bartlesville, Oklahoma reported a morning low of -28 — yes, that’s Oklahoma, not Minnesota — at their official station, which would set the all-time record low temperature for the entire state of Oklahoma. (Their previous record was -27 set in Vinita, Okla. in 1905 and Watts, Okla. in 1930.) NOAA says they have to inspect the equipment to make sure it’s in proper working order so at this point the record is preliminary.

But! There is a second contender. A non-FAA station in Nowata, Okla. reported a temperature of -30.5 degrees. NOAA is checking that one too. Suffice to say, there is pretty good evidence that Oklahoma has a new state record and Vinita and Watts are going to have try harder to get back into the books.

California Government Now Controls The Climate

Vision for Clean Air: A Framework for Air Quality and Climate Planning

Public Review Draft Release

A public review draft of Vision for Clean Air: A Framework for Air Quality and Climate Planning has been released by staff of the Air Resources Board, the South Coast Air Qualilty Management District and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District. This joint agency effort takes a coordinated look at strategies needed to meet California’s multiple air quality and climate goals well into the future.

An Apples To Apples Ratio Comparison

The graph below shows the ratio of record maximums to record minimums for all long term USHCN weather stations. The year 1939 had the highest ratio, and the 1960s and 1970s were among the lowest.

That is why alarmists ignore weather prior to the 1970s or 1960s.

During the record year 1939, the US also had 185,000 fires – compared to 40,000 so far in 2012.

Current Fire Statistics

In June, hysterical alarmists declared that the west was “literally burning” and that the fires would continue until winter snows fell.

There are no large fires burning in Colorado, New Mexico or Arizona, and it appears that the total fire count this year in the US will likely finish the lowest since at least 2003.

A Simple Proof That The 1930s Were Hotter

The graph below shows the number of all time record daily US maximums which were set or tied per year, for all USHCN stations with contiguous records going back to the year 1900 and extending through 2011

The top five years for setting record maximums were all during the 1930s. No year this century even shows up in the top fifteen. Last year didn’t even make the top sixty.

Now, let’s correct for the absurd worst case TOBS, where every single record high was double counted. Even if we divide the 1930s numbers by two – they are still hotter than 2011. There is no theoretical argument which can justify the history rewrite being done by the NOAA Ministry of Truth.

Romm is hysterical about the number of record highs, justified by loading up the statistics with many stations which didn’t exist before the 1960s.

These people have a thousand ways to cheat and lie about our history, which makes them virtual book burners.

A Good Visualization Of How Alarmists Are Lying To You

A favorite statistic of alarmists is the ratio of record maximums to record minimums. They create meaningless statistics based on many stations with short records.

The graph below shows an apples to apples comparison of stations with contiguous records going back to 1930. There are symmetrical spikes in the 1930s and 2000s – with a cold period in the 1960s and 1970s

Wouldn’t it be nice if climate scientists did actual science, rather than pushing an agenda?
