The New York Times New Normal : Hysterical Climate Superstition

It has been well over 100 years since the phenomenon called thegreenhouse effect was identified, 24 years since the steamy summer of ’88, when many of us first took notice, and, incredibly, 15 years since the Kyoto Protocol. That agreement stipulated that signatories would annually reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases and was ratified (and even acted upon) by almost every country in the world, including every industrialized nation but one. That would be the United States. Now that’s exceptionalism. (Bill Clinton signed Kyoto; George W. Bush, despite an election pledge, repudiated it.)

The Endless Summer – NYTimes.com

During the 15 years since Kyoto, the global temperature has been dead flat. The US Senate showed great foresight in unanimously rejecting this worthless treaty.

Then the NYT nutjob goes on to forecast Manhattan drowning :

The time to avoid calamitous effects has likely passed. This doesn’t mean the situation is hopeless, but the longer we wait to curb emissions, the worse and longer-lasting the effects. Climate Central’s projections show that the biggest cities in Florida, and a great deal of the Northeast coastline (including New York City), will beunderwater by 2100, when almost everyone now alive will have “managed” to leave the scene. Of course, the calamities won’t be limited to North America, nor is 2100 some magical expiration date; the end isn’t in sight.

Tide gauges around New York show that the land has been steadily subsiding at about 10 inches per century for the last 150 years, no doubt due to glacial rebound from the last ice age.  The only period of accelerated sea level rise was during the 1930s and 1940s.

The remarkable thing about these crazy people is that they imagine that they are backed by science, probably because a lot of people posing as scientists are lying to them.

McKibben – Scared Of His Own Shadow

You can’t make this stuff up

Twitter / billmckibben: Extreme Greenland heat has …

Then he links to this on Neven’s site

In Greenland, it has been very hot over the inland ice in comparison to normal conditions. On July 11th at 15 UTC the recorded temperature at the Summit Camp weather station, which is located at the ice cap’s highest altitude (3200 metres), was 2.2 degrees Celsius. That is quite high for this height, particularly in light of the fact that ice has a relatively high albedo.

The wet side of Greenland – Arctic Sea Ice

2.2 C is hot? Summit Camp is averaging -10C this month and went just barely over freezing for a few hours, like it does almost every summer.

This is what the McKibben/Neven meltdown looks like today

These people live in a constant world of hysterics – over absolutely nothing.

Why Are US Scientists Lying About Sea Level?

Two reports came out recently making wildly inaccurate claims about sea level.

The first claimed that sea level was going to rise 12 inches in California over the next twenty years. Yet satellites show that sea level has been falling in California for the past twenty years. The authors are either incompetent or lying.

The second claimed that sea level in the Northeast US was rising much faster than average for the planet. Yet satellites show that the entire US coastline has experienced below average (3mm/year) sea level rise over the past twenty years.

Once again, the authors are either incompetent or they are lying.

Obama : “Put This Wall Back Up”

Twenty five years ago, Ronald Reagan stood in Berlin and said “tear down this wall”

In the 1950s, Khrushchev predicted: “We will bury you.” But in the West today, we see a free world that has achieved a level of prosperity and well-being unprecedented in all human history. In the Communist world, we see failure, technological backwardness, declining standards of health, even want of the most basic kind–too little food. Even today, the Soviet Union still cannot feed itself. After these four decades, then, there stands before the entire world one great and inescapable conclusion: Freedom leads to prosperity. Freedom replaces the ancient hatreds among the nations with comity and peace. Freedom is the victor.

President Obama sees things differently. He understands that the purpose of the Berlin Wall was to protect the East Germans from the unfairness and evils of “capital”ism.

Being A Climate Scientist Means Never Having To Tell The Truth

Climate science has reached a new low, where many of its adherents no longer make any attempt to do anything other spew the desired answer.

New Reports Show Impact of Manmade Global Warming

Published: July 11th, 2012

By Andrew Freedman

The influence of manmade global warming on the climate system continues to grow, with human fingerprints identified in more than two dozen climate “indicators” examined by an international research team — from air temperatures to ocean acidity — for a comprehensive annual “State of the Climate” report released Tuesday.

The report notes that global warming has already been playing a role in shifting the odds for several of these extreme events, including the Texas drought. The 2011 growing season was by far the warmest and driest in Texas history, and the drought was the worst one-year drought on record there as well, costing billions in agricultural losses.

The study concluded that, due to manmade global warming, La Nina-related heat waves are now 20 times more likely to occur in Texas than they were 50 years ago.

New Reports Show Impact of Manmade Global Warming | Climate Central

The last paragraph is one of the stupidest ever written. La Nina is associated with cold global temperatures. Blaming La Nina on global warming is incomprehensibly dense.

But it is worse than it seems. Texas has never had a drought during an El Nino warm weather event. Global warming should bring less drought to Texas.

But it is even worse than that. The whole claim is complete bullshit. Hot summers in Texas were three times more common during the 1950s, as they have been during the past decade.

These people are making information up, without doing any research and without any basis in science.

No Warming Since Kyoto Was Rejected Fifteen Years Ago

The US Senate unanimously rejected Kyot0 in 1997, and since then there has been no change in global temperature.

Wood for Trees: Interactive Graphs

The lesson from this might seem obvious, but the woman below is having a tough time figuring it out.

The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, warned on Monday that global warming will accelerate at a dramatic rate unless leaders reach a deal on limiting greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible

guardian.co.uk

The current rate of warming is 0.0 degrees per century. Imagine the disaster if that increased by a factor of ten. Our leaders tell us that we need to do much better than Kyoto, in order to slow down global warming even further.
