New Pacific Institute Billboard

California’s most famous resident gives PI the thumbs up, for their high ethical standards.

Disclaimer : I didn’t create the fake billboard above. Someone gave it to me. I don’t really remember the details, but I investigated myself and have determined that I did not create the fake billboard above. No staff at stevengoddard.wordpress.com were involved or had any knowledge.

One Thermometer Phil

HadCRUT shows detailed global temperatures going back to 1850.

CRU Information Sheet no. 1: Global Temperature Record

The magical thing about this graph, is that in the HadCRUT database, they only have records from one land based station in the southern hemisphere which has data going back to 1850.

Phil’s one station was located in New Zealand, and shows that it used to be much warmer there – as seen below.

If Phil hadn’t have gotten into climate science, he could have gotten a job as an accountant at Enron.

A Soon To Be Endangered Species : The Yellow Spotted Cherry Picker

Every month, the Earth has yellow (warm) spots and purple (cold) spots.  It has been like that for billions of years.

Every month, some of our friends at NOAA and Weather Underground and Climate Progress find the yellow spots and declare them to be proof of global warming. They ignore the purple spots and ignore the fact that global temperatures have not changed for 15 years.

The “New Normal” : Lie About Everything

May 2011, brought the Joplin tornado. We were told at the time that was the new normal.

No Tornado Deaths in May 2012

Jun 7th, 2012 | By Harold Brooks | Category:  U.S. Severe Weather Blog  In May 2012, there were no tornado deaths in the United States. How unusual was that?  We can look at the record of tornado deaths, discussed here, dating back to 1875. The last time there were no deaths in the month of May was in 2005. Prior to that, it was 1994. Overall, there have been 15 years in the 138 years of the record (1875-2012) with no deaths in the month of May, so we’d expect that to happen about once every decade.

Met Office : Wintry Conditions Threaten Wimbledon

The Met Office warned the wintry conditions may last until the end of the month, threatening major events including Wimbledon and the Henley Rowing regatta.

The only good news is that millions of households are to have hosepipe bans lifted before the end of summer because two months of rain have returned rivers and reservoirs to normal levels.

The Missing Element Of Climate Models – Sacrifice

Forbes says that human sacrifice affects the climate.

climate change is happening, it’s a problem and we ought to do something about it. What we ought to do about it is is impose that carbon tax: the $80 per tonne CO2 (actually, CO2-e) that the Stern Review recommended and then let the market work it out. In my native UK we already pay green taxes of about this amount: all we need to do is shift around the taxes we already pay.

Dimwitted Scientists Contradict Themselves Every Four Paragraphs

Scientists say climate change is man made and irreversible, just like it was when it was natural and reversing itself very quickly.

The Earth is reaching a “tipping point” in climate change that will lead to increasingly rapid and irreversible destruction of the global environment unless its forces are controlled by concerted international action, an international group of scientists warns.

Unchecked population growth, the disappearance of critical plant and animal species, the over-exploitation of energy resources, and the rapidly warming climate are all combining to bring mounting pressure on the Earth’s environmental health, they say.

Scientists from five nations, led by UC Berkeley biologist Anthony Barnosky, report their analysis Thursday in the journal Nature.

They likened the potential impact of the forces to previous major changes – both gradual and abrupt – in the planet’s history that triggered mass extinctions and expansions, and produced completely new worldwide environments.

The most recent of those was the sporadic end of the last ice age that began 14,000 years ago and shifted rapidly from warm to cold and then back to warm again over a few thousand years. That period saw the extinction of half the world’s large animal life, and then the spread of an expanding human population to every continent on the planet.

100 Degree Days On The Decline In Oklahoma

U.S. Historical Climatology Network

1934 brought sixty-one days over one hundred degrees to Oklahoma City, compared to just thirty-eight days in 2011. NOAA says that the Oklahoma summer of 2011 was the hottest on record in the US, because some people there feel the need to lie about climate – to keep their funding going.

“The Midwest and the upper Midwest were the epicenters for this vast warmth,” Deke Arndt of NOAA’s Climatic Data Center said in an online video. That meant farming started earlier in the year, and so did pests and weeds, bringing higher costs earlier in the growing season, Arndt said.

“This warmth is an example of what we would expect to see more often in a warming world,”

Deke apparently isn’t confident of his own opinion, so he invokes the imaginary authoritative plural. Perhaps the mouse in his pocket agrees.

Joe Bastardi : “Here Comes The El Nino, Right On Schedule”

Guest post by Joe Bastardi.

Joe lets us know what to expect over the next nine months.

————————————————————————————–

The coming  nino  is in line with the cold pdo el ninos  we saw in the  1950s-1970s and most recently in  2009-2010. This has been  well telegraphed and a mainstay of the Weatherbell.com forecast since winter.  In fact the  pattern  is not dissimilar  to the la nina/el nino  couplet of   1975-1976  where a very warm winter was  followed by a very  cold winter. The key is that the el nino coming, because of the overall now cold decadal state of the Pacific,  will be centered in the central Pacific  while  the eastern  Pacific is not as cool.

As a side note, the forecast of the development of the nino was part of the reason Weatherbell has  the lowest Ace Index forecast  of the major players.  I believe that  that lass than  1/3 the total ace of 70-90 this year occurs south of 25 north, where we have seen the strongest of the storms  in the big ace season the past 10 years.  However the forecast, made back in March , is already showing merit with the idea that the problem this year will be in close development with over  50% of the ace within 200 miles of the US coast.  There seems to be linkage to very cold 400 mb temps in March  with  el ninos coming on, as the 10 lowest ace years  have temps  below normal from  Africa  to  the Caribbean at that level in March  and in 7 of them, an el nino developed!  Well it did this year too. By the way, the way I started looking at that was because I was debunking the IPCC trapping idea  and came up with this linkage in my studies.  So  this will be an interesting test. I presented this idea, along with a tornado linkage to temps at that level,  at the ICCC7  conference, so its not like I am saying this after the fact.

The reason for this is that the el ninos of the cold PDO  are basically  a response to the  longer lived  colder signals of the la ninas.    Joe D Aleo ‘s  research shows that cold pdo el ninos  last on average  9 months,  while the la ninas  average 21. It was why I was adamant  last year that the la nina WAS NOT DONE and that the el nino would come on this year. In fact , in statements  made at the end of the winter 10-11, I said I was uncertain about the temps of the winter 11-12, but felt that the winter of 12-13  would be very cold for the US.
