Joe Bastardi Responds To Tim McCarver’s Home Run Claim

The article below is Joe Bastardi’s response to Tim McCarver’s claim that global warming is causing more home runs because warm air is thinner.. The only thing I would add is that part of his theory seems easy enough to test. Are there more proportionally home runs scored during afternoon games than night games?

Guest post by Joe Bastardi

The recent comment by Tim McCarver that climate change is leading to more home runs  and a defense of it in some circles shows two things in addition to what is an absurd comment.

  1.  The bologna  about climate change has gotten so bad, it is in the psyche of people even  broadcasting sporting events and
  2. the people defending this will  ignore the overwhelming facts to push their points.

First of all it is an absurd comment along the lines  that one can argue changes in uniforms  are just as much responsible. Every team has changed  its uniform from the old days, they are not exactly the way they were, they may be made of different  material, heck I have seen some games where people play in shorts.  Its one of those comments  where someone can say anything and then   say, okay, prove to me absolutely its not true. “ So Mr, Jones,  just when did you stop  spying on your neighbor”  , as if you were, but then then the person says, okay prove it.

So again, you want to defend that idea against the fact that stadiums are smaller,  players are bigger and stronger, there are more teams  leading to more variance in strength, on paper it seems absurd, because it is. And the data backs me up. In the period 1931-1960, when the pdo and amo were in similar cyclical phases are they are now ( the pdo was warm till the late 40s, then it flipped,  it was warm  1978-2007 then flipped,   the atlantic  overall is similar to the way it was in the  50s now, so in the whole comparison, we are in the latter stages of the warm cycle we were in the 50s)  the  comparison of temps  plainly shows the weather was warmer in baseball season  ( I will use  April to October,  for one, then  June-August for the other)

Yet Another Arctic Data Problem

Frank Lasner dug this up. DMI has old ice extent maps on their web site, like this one from August 1938.

Hide the decline – Latest News (hidethedecline)

brunnur.vedur.is/pub/trausti/Iskort/Pdf/1938/1938_08.pdf

It shows the Northeast Passage nearly open, with several hundred miles of open water north of Russia. Now compare vs. August 1996 – when the Northeast Passage was frozen up.

N_199608_extn.png (420×500)

The image below overlays the 1996 map on the 1938 map. Green represents more ice in 1996, red shows more ice in 1938. There was more ice in August 1996 than in August 1938.

So here is the problem. UIUC has this graph on their website, which shows a lot more ice in summer 1938 than in summer 1996.

seasonal.extent.1900-2010.png (1296×1057)

That isn’t the first problem found with this graph. It also shows 1974 extent higher than 1979, which we know from the 1990 IPCC report to be incorrect.

Bottom line for me is that I don’t trust any of the pre-satellite ice or temperature data being published now. They appear to be political documents rather than historical.

Follow The $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Richard Black reports on exactly what is behind this scam.

recent climate change and biodiversity agreements both talk of sums in the order of $100bn per year by 2020, and that the Rio+20 agenda is far broader, you can guess at the sums of money that might be requested here.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-17898323

In February, alarmists got hysterical over $200,000 which they thought the Koch Brothers had given to Heartland.  Apparently skeptics are getting 0.0002% of the climate money, which Hansen says gives us a big advantage.

Disclaimer : I receive exactly 0.0000000000% of the total funding pot.

Why Alaska Might Be the Best Place for Electric Cars

by Timothy Hurst on May 1, 2012

Let me first preface this piece by saying Alaska may not, in fact, be the best place to own and operate an electric car. Confused? Let me explain. A new study (pdf) by the Union of Concerned Scientists explores the often asked but rarely answered questions surrounding the issue of whether some geographic regions may be better than others for electric cars in terms of their environmental impact.

Why Alaska Might Be the Best Place for Electric Cars

Other than the fact that the battery would freeze, and that essentially every destination in Alaska is beyond the range of an electric car, and that you would probably burn out the motor when you high center it in the snow – it sounds like a great idea.

UK Officially In Droughtflood

Water companies reached for words like “irony” today to explain to 20 million customers why they should save water even as rivers overflowed, gardens were swamped and fields became lakes after a further inch of rain fell in some regions in the space of 12 hours, and 36 flood warnings remained in place.

With April declared officially the wettest since records began in 1912 and farmers complaining that they need flood-tolerant crops this month after drought-tolerant ones last month, Thames tried to be understanding:

“We are well aware of the irony that heavy rain set in after the hosepipe ban was announced. In fact, it hasn’t really stopped raining since we and six other companies imposed hosepipe bans on 5 April ,” said Richard Aylard, director of sustainability.

Obama Looking For New Excuses To Run Down The US Economy

U.S. rolls out 10-year climate study

Published: May 1, 2012 at 7:52 AM

WASHINGTON, May 1 (UPI) — A 10-year research plan outlined by the White House will focus on how human economic activity influences climate change, the administration said.

The White House said it formalized a 10-year strategic plan for the U.S. Global Change Research Program. The plan will focus on the relationship between human economic activity and global climate change.

Obama is now looking for specific legalisms to finish off the United States economy. Fifty percent of Americans are still thinking about giving him the opportunity to ruin their children’s lives.

The EPA Needs To Shut Down Obama’s Green Economy

Obama’s “green economy” scam is now an environmental hazard.

MILPITAS (CBS 5) — Three months ago, CBS 5 caught Solyndra tossing millions of dollars worth of brand new glass tubes used to make solar panels. Now the bankrupt solar firm, once touted as a symbol of green technology, may be trying to abandon toxic waste.

Not only did Obama steal many billions of dollars from the public coffers to pay back campaign donors, but he set America down a path of energy shortages, skyrocketing prices – and now toxic waste.

An Exceptionally Deluded Climate Scientist

Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) — Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are melting faster than expected and the future rise in sea level will be “much higher” than previously forecast, a group of 26 climate scientists said in a report today.

The rise in global sea level since 1995 has been 3.4 millimeters a year (0.13 inches), 80 percent greater than past predictions, said Richard Somerville, a professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego and a contributor to today’s report. Sea levels may rise 1 meter by 2100, double earlier forecasts, according to the report.

Sea Level Rising Faster Than Forecast, Scientists Say (Correct) – Bloomberg

Richard Somerville at Scripps in La Jolla California, thinks that sea level rise threatens him – despite the fact that sea level is falling there.

The animation below shows that there has been essentially no change at high tide in La Jolla since 1871.

Somerville refused to debate Fred Singer in 2010, and now is parroting this nonsense about the halt in warming over the last decade or two.

“It would be like saying your terribly sick child is probably OK because her fever of 104.3 has briefly dropped to 104.2,” as veteran climatologist Richard Somerville, emeritus professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego California has told ABC News.

Let’s have a look at the Hansen hockey stick vs. the last 500,000 years of temperature data  – which shows regular swings of 12C.

New Antarctic Ice Core Data

The image below zooms in on the right side of the graph, and tacks on the GISS global graph at the same Y axis scale. Recent claimed warming is completely in the noise of the historical record. It isn’t a “fever” and is statistically meaningless.

Somerville refused Fred Singer’s challenge to debate in 2010, because his fairy tales only work with compliant sheeple in the press corps(e)
