Scientists at Stanford University in California and Purdue University in Indiana say global warming is going to hit hard in Corn Belt states where it most matters — the corn market. The study, financed by the U.S. Department of Energy, says that the corn market will be walloped in the coming years by climate change.

Factors such as market policies or oil prices have comparatively little effect on corn prices compared to global warming, the study says. In fact, heat waves sparked by rising global temperatures are expected to become more common, withering crops in the Midwest, scientists say.

What utter stupidity. The graph below shows all of the 100 degree days recorded at the USHCN station closest to Des Moines, Iowa. All but one occurred below 350 ppm CO2, and the hottest decade (by far) was the 1930s. Before USHCN “adjustments,” the past decade had some of the coolest summer afternoons on record in Des Moines.

People pay nearly $50K per year to send their kid to Stanford. For what? To teach them the scientific skills of a Kentucky Fried Chicken dropout?

Temperatures are now only 58 degrees Fahrenheit below the freezing point.

In 1975, the National Academy Of Sciences produced this graph of northern hemisphere temperatures, which had been plummeting since the 1930s.

The difference between the original uncorrupted data (blue) and Hansen’s altered data is seen below. Hansen cooled the past in order to hide the warmth of the 1930s, and the cooling from 1940 to 1970.

The graph below shows RSS satellite data for the northern hemisphere (red dots) tacked on to the end of the NAS graph – at the same scale on both axes. Before Hansen tampering, there is no warming since the 1930s.

I am just back from a soccer game, and someone named Richard Garwin has posted over on real science dot com that he is the “new owner” of the blog. I don’t know anything about it, have no association with it, and don’t have any additional information at this time.

My intention is to post here from now on. I am the only person with admin permissions on this blog and intend to keep it that way.

Apparently Richard Garwin is the name of a well respected physicist. This appears to be the umpteenth attempt at identity theft which has gone on over there this week.

Hansen says that the Arctic is the fastest warming place on Earth.  Dozens of other places are also the fastest warming place on Earth, but the Arctic is particularly important because Hansen has almost no thermometers there.

A new book claims the official account was riddled with errors

The claims are from Chuck Pfarrer, a former SEAL team commander, in a book called SEAL Target Geronimo.

He has spoken to several of the men who carried out the operation at Bin Laden’s mansion hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on May 2.

Mr Pfarrer paints a very different picture to the official photo released at the time which shows Mr Obama and advisers huddled round a table in the White House situation room as footage was beamed from a drone 15,000ft above the al-Qaeda leader’s mansion.

Mr Pfarrer says the President’s role was largely inflated and suggests he stayed out on the golf course for so long so he could distance himself in case it went wrong. Mr Pfarrer writes: ‘If this had completely gone south, he was in a position to disavow.’

He says the White House photographs did not show the moment that Bin Laden was killed, but the moment a helicopter went down, which happened after the shooting.

Yet another backtrack and change of tune from the White House has emerged over the fact that Obama did NOT watch the raid live and did not see the moment Osama bin Laden was shot dead. In fact the video feed stopped before US special forces stormed bin Laden’s hideaway.

The White House originally said that President Obama and Hillary Clinton watched the raid as it happened and in effect encouraged the world’s media to report that they had watched “the drama unfold”.

Claims that the al-Qaeda leader had died while firing an automatic weapon at commandos were withdrawn, with President Barack Obama’s spokesman admitting “he was unarmed”. A dramatic description of bin Laden using his wife as a “human shield” and forcing her to sacrifice her life also proved to be false. The woman was still alive and was taken into custody with several of the terrorist’s children.

In an embarrassing climb-down, Barack Obama’s press secretary, Jay Carney, admitted that the previous version of events — which came mostly from the chief US counter-terrorism adviser, John Brennan — had been put out “with great haste”.

Not all dinner party conversation is fluff and nonsense. The other night, a friend leaned over and asked, “Do you think people understand yet about global warming and are ready to do something about it?”

I was tempted to heave a huge shrug. It’s very hard to gauge what percentage of America’s millions understand such phenomonena as the “greenhouse effect” and will support action to reverse it.

Some scientists at an international symposium in Vancouver warn most estimates for a rise in the sea level are too conservative and several B.C. communities will be vulnerable to flooding unless drastic action is taken.

The gathering of the American Association for the Advancement of Science heard Sunday the sea level could rise by as little as 30 centimetres or as much as one metre in the next century.

But SFU geology professor John Clague, who studies the effect of the rising sea on the B.C. coast, says a rise of about one metre is more likely.
