No Trend In Winter Precipitation

Jeff Masters said that the heavy snow last winter was caused by “global warming adding moisture to the atmosphere.” This is an fascinating theory, given that it was the 17th driest winter on record in the US and that there has been no trend in US winter precipitation.

No Gore Syndrome Here

This is the latest DMI graph for July 31.

NSIDC’s most recent forecast hinted at a record low this summer.

Early sea ice melt onset, snow cover retreat presage rapid 2011 summer decline

Arctic sea ice extent declined at a rapid pace through the first half of July, and is now tracking below the year 2007, which saw the record minimum September extent. The rapid decline in the past few weeks is related to persistent above-average temperatures and an early start to melt.

The Dawn Of Time

Earlier in the year NOAA defined the dawn of time as 1950, claiming that they don’t know how many people died in weather related incidents prior to that time. Now they have moved the dawn of time forwards to the ice age scare of 1971, because it makes it possible to paint all their temperature maps red.

Isn’t science grand? The most important thing is to hide any data which doesn’t fit the agenda.

Republicans Pull A Boehner

Under a plan negotiated late Saturday night, the nation’s debt limit would rise in two steps by about $2.4 trillion and spending would be cut by a slightly larger amount, the officials said. The first stage — about $1 trillion — would take place immediately and the second later in the year.

Translation :  the Republican leadership caved and returned to business as usual – i.e. spiraling the US down to third world nation status.

“Never before have so many people with so little to say said so much”

Apparently the definition of scientist is someone who makes stuff up and pretends that  they know what they are talking about.

Scientists recently found ocean warming is worse than atmospheric warming, as it will melt down polar ice sheets faster than previously thought, and raise the sea level more than previous forecast, according to a new study from the University of Arizona (UA).

The study said layers of subsurface ocean surrounding the polar ice sheets will warm substantially. Scientists said the ocean layer about 200 to 500 meters below the surface would warm around 1 centi-degree on average, by 2100. Layer along the Greenland coast would warm about 2 centi-degrees, while layer along Antarctica would warm only 0.5 centi-degrees.

“No one has noticed this discrepancy before — that the subsurface oceans surrounding Greenland and Antarctica warm very differently,” Yin said.

The Gulf Stream carries warm subtropical waters towards north, while the Antarctic Circumpolar Current blocks some of the subtropical warmth from getting into the Antarctic’s coastal waters, so this discrepancy appears.

The study said the warming ocean will raise the sea level by 1 meter by 2100 and much more in the coming centuries

NOAA Extends Their Cherry Picking Scam To Michigan

NOAA seems to have officially adopted the 1970s Ice Age scare as their new cherry picking  baseline. These reports are popping up all over the country

Grand Rapids often is described as a cool city.
But, in meteorological terms, it’s a hot place — 1.4 degrees hotter, to be exact, over the past several years.

Call it global warming or simply climate change, West Michigan is getting warmer as the decades pass.

No surprise, right? Particularly with the talk among weather experts about the warming planet and the damage that could accompany it.

But now, new data from the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids confirms the trend.

On Monday, local meteorologists will begin using “new normals.”

It’s a data set of climate variables such as temperature, precipitation and snowfall based on 30 years of record-keeping.
Every 10 years, the NWS updates its “normals” and shifts the timeline — so, starting Monday, the 30-year period goes from 1971-2000 to 1981-2010

What complete bollocks. It was considerably warmer in western Michigan during the 1930s.

Earth To Freeze – Chicago Soon To Be Buried Under Ice

Rather than spiraling into a global warming meltdown, we may be heading into the next ice age.

The U.S. National Solar Observatory, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory and astrophysicists across the planet report that the nearly all-time low sunspot activity may result in a sustained cooling period on Earth.

Alaska To Melt And Burn

Huge ’07 Alaska tundra fire hints at climate future

Alaska’s huge Anaktuvuk River tundra fire in 2007 released as much carbon into the atmosphere as Earth’s entire Arctic tundra absorbs in a year, report the BBC and Alaska Dispatch, citing a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature. Though the 400-square-mile fire’s long-term effects remain uncertain, it may have been a harbinger of things to come in a warmer, drier Arctic, the researchers say. It was the largest tundra fire ever recorded, releasing carbon stored over a period of 50 years and doubling the cumulative area of Alaska tundra burned in smaller fires since 1950.

Ice Sheets Dissolving In Boiling Pits Of Acid, As The Land Melts And Animals Go Extinct

After assessing and reviewing countless reports from scientists all over the world, the IPCC notes that “scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal.” Their evidence?

In a brief summary: Ice sheets have shrunk and glaciers are retreating. Ocean temperatures and sea levels have risen. The acidity of ocean water has increased dramatically over the last century due to elevated carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. Precipitation patterns have changed. Global temperatures have risen.

A guide compiled by ThinkProgress includes summaries of the most significant reports on climate science. They include reports by the IPCC. Some of the most meaningful data presented by the reports are the following: levels of carbon dioxide in the world are the highest they have been in 15 million years; the oceans are acidifying ten times faster today than 55 million years ago when a mass extinction of marine species occurred; and temperatures on land have risen to the highest they have ever been on record.
