Sea Level To Rise 12 Feet In New Orleans – This Century!

Within the next 90 years, New Orleans could see an increase in sea level as much as 4.6 feet. At the same time, some areas of New Orleans – already below sea level – have been sinking an inch a year. These conditions give Louisiana one of the highest rates of sea submersion in the nation, the report said.

Amazing. 4.6 feet of sea level rise plus 90 inches of subsidence. More than one foot of sea level rise every eight years. They better start evacuating the city now. Property values will be worthless.

Now Possible To Predict Tipping Points

Predicting Climate ‘Tipping Points’ Within Reach, Study Suggests

New research finds that early warning of some impending global warming tipping points may already be possible

http://solveclimatenews.com/

This is exciting news, particularly given that we disappeared in a cloud of blue steam decades ago, we survived the 1970s ice age, we survived the global famine of the 1980s, we survived the ozone hole and acid rain, we survived the permanent drought, and we survived the  drowning of Manhattan.

Obama: House Republicans Wasted ‘precious days’

President Obama used his his weekly address to call out House Republicans for holding up the process of getting “our fiscal house in order.”

“Republicans in the House of Representatives just spent precious days trying to pass a plan that a majority of Republicans and Democrats in the Senate had already said they wouldn’t vote for,” Obama said in the Saturday morning message.

Gore Effect Strikes NSIDC

On July 17, NSIDC warned of impending Arctic doom

July 18, 2011
Early sea ice melt onset, snow cover retreat presage rapid 2011 summer decline

Arctic sea ice extent declined at a rapid pace through the first half of July, and is now tracking below the year 2007, which saw the record minimum September extent. The rapid decline in the past few weeks is related to persistent above-average temperatures and an early start to melt.

http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/2011/071811.html

Since then, melt has slowed down and there has been little change in the ice edge. Red shows where it has shrunk and green shows where it has grown.

Readers of the Real Science blog knew that this was going happen.

Met Office admits ‘barbecue summer is off’

The Met Office officials refused to apologise today after admitting that the “barbecue summer” they had predicted was no longer likely.

As rain lashed down on most of Britain, a revised forecast was published suggesting that the weather in August would be changeable with more rain as well as sunny periods.

The revised forecast will come as an embarrassment to the Met Office who published a press release in April detailing news of a hot summer. Ewen McCallum, the chief meteorologist, said the wet summers of 2007 and 2008 were highly unlikely to be repeated.

“This year will be much drier than normal,” he predicted. “Get the BBQ out. Probably with spells of weather with the temperature reaching 30 degrees Celsius.”

Philip Eden, vice president of the Royal Meteorological Society, criticised the Met Office for publicising such an optimistic prediction when they had relatively little evidence of how the summer would unfold.
