If the same amount of melting continues throughout July it will be the fastest rate since records began in 1979.
‘That’s relatively fast,’ NSIDC research scientist Julienne Stroeve told LiveScience.
‘Unless things change in the next few weeks, we might have a new record for July.
‘Certainly overall, we think the ice is thinner overall leading up to this season than it was in 2007.’
Stroeve said that clearer skies over the Arctic have also allowed the sun’s rays to bake the sheets of ice which are usually protected by thick cloud cover.
The ice expert added that cooler temperatures for the rest of July could decrease the rate at which the ice is melting.
‘It’s too early to say we’re going to have a new record low but I would say it’s certainly possible with the way things have been going,’ he added.
A little gender confusion at the Daily Mail, perhaps?
The Obama administration tells us that an increase of 200 ppm CO2 will increase temperatures by 11F. CO2 during the Ordovician was about 4,000 ppm higher, so we can infer that temperatures at the time were well above the boiling point of water.
(4,000 / 200) * 11 = 220 degrees.
As John Cook points out, there was an ice age during the late Ordovician – which seems a bit mysterious given that temperatures must have been about 230 degrees.
OK, I’m not being fair. John thinks that solar output was 30% lower back then, so temperatures during the Ordovician ice age were only 150 degrees warmer than today, not 220 degrees warmer. CO2 is the most powerful force in the Universe. It controls physical law and even makes the gods jealous.
That is at least her second mass murder this year.
The bombing-shootings took up enormous bandwidth in our media machine until it came out that the alleged perpetrator has more in common with Sarah Palin and Alan Dershowitz than with Rachel Corrie orĀ Furkan Do?an, both of whom have been labelled terrorists by Dershowitz.

July 1936 was the hottest on record in the midwest, while January 1936 was one of the coldest. Twelve degrees above normal in the summer and twelve degrees below normal in the winter. CO2 controls the climate, and must have increased about 3,000 ppm between January and July.
The end of July is here and sea ice extent is starting to become somewhat predictable. Here is my forecast for August 1.
This is based on the fact that in 2007 there was very rapid ice loss occurring in the East Siberian Sea and Arctic Basin. Neither of which we are seeing this year.

GISS has essentially no thermometers north of 80N, but that didn’t stop them from painting the region red in June.
DMI shows that the region north of 80N was below normal in June. GISS has it 1-4C above normal. Both data sets used a baseline of 1958-2002 for comparison.

GISS relies on their high phony Arctic anomalies to create their high phony global anomalies. Even so, they can’t get their numbers up to the zero emissions scenario C.
Here is a report from 1958 which says that Arctic sea ice was six feet thick – identical to today. It was “steadily thinning” and was “warming appreciably.”
