Why Didn’t We Listen?

The world’s top scientists told us that all Himalayan Glaciers will be gone in 24 years. We could have prevented this had we simply agreed three years ago to go back to the stone ages – while they jet-setted and  partied at exotic locations around the world.

Lester Brown: Melting Mountain Glaciers Will Shrink Grain Harvests in China and India
Author: Lester Brown, Earth Policy Institute
Published on Mar 21, 2008 – 7:51:14 AM

March 20, 2008 – The world is now facing a climate-driven shrinkage of river-based irrigation water supplies. Mountain glaciers in the Himalayas and on the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau are melting and could soon deprive the major rivers of India and China of the ice melt needed to sustain them during the dry season. In the Ganges, the Yellow, and the Yangtze river basins, where irrigated agriculture depends heavily on rivers, this loss of dry-season flow will shrink harvests.

The world has never faced such a predictably massive threat to food production as that posed by the melting mountain glaciers of Asia. China and India are the world’s leading producers of both wheat and rice — humanity’s food staples. China’s wheat harvest is nearly double that of the United States, which ranks third after India. With rice, these two countries are far and away the leading producers, together accounting for over half of the world harvest.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports that Himalayan glaciers are receding rapidly and that many could melt entirely by 2035. If the giant Gangotri Glacier that supplies 70 percent of the Ganges flow during the dry season disappears, the Ganges could become a seasonal river, flowing during the rainy season but not during the summer dry season when irrigation water needs are greatest.

Shock News : MSM Has No Idea What They Are Talking About

“Well, I hope that this is a lesson to those of you who have indulged in media assassination for three years. Bias, prejudice and incompetent talking heads saying what would be and how to be. I’m disgusted by some of the lawyers that have done this, and I can tell you that my colleagues from coast to coast and border to border have condemned this whole process of lawyers getting on television and talking about cases that they don’t know a damn thing about. And don’t have the experience to back up their words or the law to do it. Now you learned a lesson, and we appreciate the jury and those of you that have been objective and professional. We like it. Others, we’re going to be talking to again. Thank you very much,” Cheney Mason, one of Casey Anthony’s defense attorneys said at a press conference after the verdict was announced.

Some Climate Scientists Are Capable Of Learning

Mike Lockwood 2007

July 11 (Bloomberg) — Recent global warming isn’t a result of solar radiation, scientists said, disputing a theory advanced by some researchers as an alternative to the United Nations’ view that temperatures are rising as a result of human activities.

The scientists examined historical records of solar activity over the past century, studying measures such as the number of sunspots and the amount of light emitted. They found that the total radiation from the sun peaked in 1985, according to Mike Lockwood, co-author of the paper published today in the U.K. journal Proceedings of the Royal Society A.

A new study into climate change has revealed that Brits may soon be forced to contend with much harsher winters, with as many as one in seven casting the country into sub-zero temperatures for pro-longed periods.

The findings were printed in the Institute of Physics’ journal Environmental Research Letters and are based on research exploring how low solar activity may affect winter weather patterns.

“We could get to the point where one-in-seven winters are very cold, such as we had at the start of last winter and all through the winter before,” commented co-author Mike Lockwood, professor of space environment physics at the University of Reading.

Blame China

The lull in global warming from 1998 to 2008 was mainly caused by a sharp rise in China’s coal use, a study suggests.

The absence of a temperature rise over that decade is often used by “climate sceptics” as grounds for denying the existence of man-made global warming.

But the new study, in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, concludes that smog from the extra coal acted to mask greenhouse warming.

China’s coal use doubled 2002-2007, according to US government figures.

China is one of the few places which hasn’t cooled since 1998, but why let actual data interfere with climate propaganda?

97% Of Climate Scientists Can’t Answer This Question

During the 1930s, as much as 80% of the US suffered severe to extreme drought. What caused this?

If you can’t answer that question, then you certainly are not competent to claim that you know what causes current weather patterns. If you do make that claim, then you are either a fool or a liar.

“Climate Expert” Means Pulling Statistics Out Of Where The Sun Never Shines

A climate change specialist says climate change is happening faster than many scientists predicted and it is more than 90 per cent likely to be caused by human activity.

Victoria University’s director of climate change in its School of Government, Martin Manning, spoke to about 80 people at a recent seminar on “Carbon – the science and the sense” at Massey University.

It is more than 90% likely that people who make statements like that can’t back them up with any actual data.

Plummeting Winter Temperatures Caused By Chinese Power Plants

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/

a study by Robert Kaufmann, of Boston University, and his colleagues has discovered that the levelling off of surface temperatures during this period can be explained by the sulphate particles released into the atmosphere from coal-burning power stations. This has the effect of reflecting sunlight and heat away from Earth.

Rolling Stone Calls For Guerilla Warfare Against Global Warming

They think that violence and taxes can stabilize the climate.

Have we failed to slow global warming pollution in part because climate and environmental activists have been too polite and well behaved?  Is it time to take to the streets, express some outrage, maybe engage in a little guerilla warfare against Big Oil and Big Coal?

That’s the message you get in a new documentary film called Just Do It: A Tale of Modern Day Outlaws, which will be released in the U.K. this summer.  The film follows the adventures of several British climate activists as they cut through fences and get smacked around by cops in riot gear.  The film is selling a kind of moral outrage: Big Oil and Big Coal are wrecking the planet just to turn a profit, and nobody – certainly not mild-mannered treehuggers – is doing anything to stop it.  As one activist in the film says: “I want to feel like doing something, rather than nothing, and not just watching the world go to shit.”

Hansen 2006 : Super El Nino

We suggest that an El Nino is likely to originate in 2006 and that there is a good chance it will be a “super El Nino”, rivaling the 1983 and 1997-1998 El Ninos, which were successively labeled the “El Nino of the century” as they were of unprecedented strength in the previous 100 years.

We suggest that Hansen is desperate to get temperatures up to at least his low emissions scenario C. He needs a drowning Manhattan to get his reputation back on track.
