Republicans Destroying The Planet!

The key to defeating global warming is convincing our political leaders that saving our planet is job one. Unfortunately, the Republican Party dismisses global warming in favor of me-first greed, and the Democratic Party is either too timid or unable to implement what needs to be done.

To impede progress, fossil-fuels-industry-linked think tanks produce opinion pieces, creating doubt that human-induced global warming is real. Fox News, conservative talk radio and right-wing bloggers then promote those ideas to their unquestioning audiences

For the record, too much CO2 is a problem because it traps heat like the windows of a car on a sunny day; in the 1970s, only 10 percent of climate scientists were predicting a cooling period (compared to 62 percent who were predicting warming); and multiple independent panels have cleared the “Climategate” scientists of any wrongdoing.

If the trend continues, today’s students will see global warming hit full force during their lifetimes. Waiting for older generations to act is reckless.

Once the phenomenon reaches its tipping point, there’s no turning back.

Human-caused global warming has melted glaciers and threatens the polar bears’ existence, which the scientific community understands but the fossil-fuels industry keeps trying to debunk.

Giant Whales Working As Ice Breakers

Global warming blamed for Pacific marine life passing into Atlantic

Last Updated: Mon, 27 Jun 2011 04:23:00 +1000

Scientists are warning that global warming has allowed marine life from the Pacific Ocean to pass into the Atlantic for the first time in thousands of years.

The world’s northern oceans used to have permanent ice cover, but that ice has thinned and melted to such as extent that the region can now be navigated.

Not just by boats, but also sea creatures from giant whales to single-cell plankton.

Plankton consists of microscopic plants called phytoplankton and tiny animals called zooplankton.

Pathetic. It has gotten to the point now where they just make stuff up.

Rob Dekker Throwing Money Away

From William Connelly’s Blog

This year’s story so far: in May, I accepted some bets but was still trying to come to terms with Rob Dekker. In the comments there we came to agreement on the following:

If both NSIDC and IARC-JAXA September 2016 monthly average sea ice extent report are above 4.80 million km^2, RD pays WMC US$ 10,000. If both are below 3.10 million km^2, WMC pays RD US$ 10,000. In all other cases the bet is null and void

What a dumb bet. There is an excellent chance of 4.8, and zero chance of 3.1. PIOMAS BS takes its first victim.

Our Texas Friends Still Think History Began 40 Years Ago

Does climate change play into the local weather equation?

At a basic level, yes, Nielsen-Gammon said.

Temperatures in Texas have increased by 1 or 2 degrees Fahrenheit over the past 30 to 40 years, he said.

“So the current record warmth is probably a couple of degrees warmer than it would have been without climate change,” he said.

Climate change, though, is not just about global warming, Hayhoe said via telephone Tuesday.

“An increase of a few degrees in our average temperature is not really going to have that big of an effect on any of us,” she said. “What’s going to affect us is that our conditions are getting more unpredictable.”

Long-term, temperatures in Texas have not warmed. Over the last ten years, temperatures have been on a downwards trend. The hottest year was 90 years ago. Year to date, 2011 is the 19th warmest – hardly “record warmth.”

“Islands Sink As Sea Levels Rise”

I don’t know where these things are happening, but I am sure they are happening somewhere – where poor people live.

Whatever you want to call it, the Earth is experiencing drastic changes. Islands sink as sea levels rise. Instead of denying what we know to be true, that ancient glaciers are thawing, and temperatures are rising rapidly in areas that were cooler in recent history, we should unite in an effort to deal with what we can see, and prepare ourselves for climatic changes that surely lie ahead.

Stanford Grad Doesn’t Know To Use The Internet

The ocean and atmosphere may be cold, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t hot.

Don’t let cool spring fool you, experts say global warming is a fact
BY MIKE FAULK
YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

YAKIMA, Wash. — With this year’s heavy snowpack and a cool, wet spring that has delayed some harvests, it might be tempting to conclude that global warming isn’t an issue in the Yakima Valley.

But some of the state’s most respected climate experts say the planet is still warming as carbon dioxide levels rise faster than ever, and the results have major implications for the region.

Polar oceanographer Miles McPhee said unusual temperatures, plus the recent increase in tornadoes and storms nationally, indicate of a growing imbalance in the earth’s weather patterns, caused by a rapid increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the oceans.

“You can tie that to the energy we’ve been seeing in these storms,” said McPhee, a Naches resident and graduate of Stanford University and the University of Washington. “The earth has to address this imbalance by moving heat around, and it’s doing it in a way that might not be advantageous for us.”

It’s true that temperatures in the Pacific Northwest have been cooler than average this year, but McPhee said temperatures in the Southwest have been higher than average

That is simply not true.

Winter Temperatures Crashing Across The US

Joe D’Aleo sent this over. US winter temperatures are dropping at a rate of between thirteen and eighty-seven degrees per century.

This is exactly what the climate models predicted, and exactly what Jeff Masters means when he talks about global warming making it snow more.
