Last summer we were told that the heat wave in Moscow was evidence of global warming. This claim is ridiculous, as we can see in HadCRUT data. The center of the heat wave was located in grid cell 47.5N, 37.5E, which is no warmer now than it was when HadCRUT records began there around 1875.
Also note that the heat wave covered only a small portion of Russia, and that our friends no longer talk about Moscow – which has averaged 21F since the start of December.

A Southern Oregon University professor believes students and the public need to hear the considerable case against global warming to help spur critical thinking.
Biologist John Roden will give a talk called “Global Climate Change: Why Are There Still Skeptics?” at 7:30 tonight, in the Meese Auditorium in the SOU Art Building, as part of the school’s Distinguished Lecture series showcasing campus professors. It’s free and open to the public.
Roden notes that concentrations of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, today is 440 parts per million in the atmosphere, but in the Jurassic period was a vastly more dense 700,000 ppm, “yet the planet wasn’t more than 20 degrees warmer.” This is because the gas has a ceiling at which it doesn’t increase heat from trapped sunlight, he says.
Wow! 78% N2 + 21% O2 + 1% Ar + 70% CO2. Apparently the atmosphere during the Jurassic had 170% total gases.
Schmidt’s study found that water vapor is indeed the largest single contributor to natural global warming, responsible for about 50 percent of the greenhouse effect. Following water vapor are clouds, contributing about 25 percent, and next comes carbon dioxide with 20 percent.
This is a very simple experiment in RRTM. I simply zeroed out the CO2 concentration in each layer of the atmosphere. It turns out that in the tropical atmosphere, CO2 only accounts for 1.3% of the greenhouse effect. Downwelling LW radiation dropped from 397 watts/m^2 to 392 watts/m^2.
In other words, the loss of all CO2 from the atmosphere would have the same effect as a small change in the humidity.
Of course life would also cease to exist, as plant growth would stop.
Another group of researchers studying Milwaukee’s sewers recently concluded that heavy rains caused by climate change could lead to a 20 percent increase in the number of sewage overflows, a troubling sign for Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and other industrial cities throughout the Midwest with similar systems.
We have to fight, finally, without any guarantee that we are going to win. We have waited late to get started and our adversaries are strong and we do not know how this is going to come out. If you were a betting person, you might bet we were going to lose because so far that’s what happened, but that’s not a bet you’re allowed to make. The only thing that a morally awake person to do when the worst thing that’s ever happened is happening is try to change those odds.

HONOLULU (AP) — Lost in the renewed scrutiny into President Barack Obama’s birth records is the fact that anyone can walk into a Hawaii vital records office, wait in line behind couples getting marriage licenses and open a baby-blue government binder containing basic information about his birth.
Highlighted in yellow on page 1,218 of the thick binder is the computer-generated listing for a boy named Barack Hussein Obama II born in Hawaii, surrounded by the alphabetized last names of all other children born in-state between 1960 and 1964. This is the only government birth information, called “index data,” available to the public.
