If You Tax Them, They Will Come – To Raise Prices

Did these geniuses sleep through their first year economics class?

In a recent paper, the government’s climate change adviser Ross Garnaut suggested a carbon price in the $20 to $30 range.

Mr Combet also confirmed more than 50 per cent of the carbon tax’s revenue would be used for permanent assistance for millions of households.

He said the tax would be levied on 1000 of Australia’s biggest polluters.

But he said the largest impact would be borne by just a few dozen.

“When you exclude sectors that will not be covered by the carbon price, the 50 largest polluters will be responsible for around two-thirds of carbon liabilities,” Mr Combet said.

Abandoning The Tide Guages

Mike’s Nature Trick was to switch measurement systems when they quit providing the desired evidence of global warming. A similar trick was done in the 1990s when the IPCC  abandoned tide gauges in favor of altimetry readings. This allowed the team to make the unsupportable claim that sea level rise had accelerated.

So why does altimetry give a higher rate than tide gauges? Look at the red spot below east of the Philippines.

That region of 9-12 mm/year skews the average upwards. The problem is that the error (below) under the red spot is almost as large as the claimed trend.

In other words, that big bulge in the ocean probably doesn’t actually exist, and the altimetry numbers are almost undoubtedly too high. There was never any valid reason to switch measurement systems.

Combet Explains That Higher Taxes Will Fatten Australian Taxpayers Wallets

He thinks that voters are as stupid as he is.

The Federal Government is poised to pledge millions of dollars in sweeteners for Australian households who are facing the possibility of higher bills under the proposed carbon tax.

Climate Change Minister Greg Combet will use a speech at the National Press Club later today to release key details of the proposed compensation for households under the scheme.
He says pensioners and the low-paid will be the priority for compensation and says most families will actually be better off under the plan.

The Government has maintained all revenue from the scheme will be used to compensate households and sensitive industries, and support energy efficiency and new technologies.

“What we’re making clear today is that more than 50 per cent of the carbon price revenue will be used to assist households and that we expect that millions of households will be better off under the carbon price arrangements,” Mr Combet told ABC’s AM.

“Obviously as a Labor Government, we’re concerned to help low and middle income households as much as we can.”

Natural Gas Worse Than Coal Worse Than Biofuels Worse Than Oil Worse Than Nuclear Worse Than Natural Gas

Study: Natural Gas Drilling May Contribute More to Global Warming than Coal

A new study on the environmental impact on natural gas drilling in shale has found that the process known as “hydraulic fracturing” may contribute to global warming as much as coal, or even more, because large amounts of methane, a greenhouse gas, are escaping into the atmosphere during the process. For years, advocates of “fracking” have promoted natural gas as a clean alternative to coal. In the new study, Cornell Professor Robert Howarth writes, “Compared to coal, the footprint of shale gas is at least 20 percent greater and perhaps more than twice as great on the 20-year horizon, and is comparable when compared over 100 years.”

Climate change not the same as global warming

Re: Climate issues

With the cold winter weather tapering off, the often repeated comments about “so-called global warming and climate change,” sparked by bitterly cold temperatures and “snowmageddons,” still resonate.

First let’s get the terminology straight. Climate change is the change in climatic conditions of regions which, yes, do include temperature, but also many of the Earth’s other systems. Global warming is the overall increase in temperature across the globe. Simple enough, right?

While the more serious effects of climate change are not being felt by residents of southern Ontario, they are being felt by the communities in northern Canada. Flooding, increased rainfall and increased temperatures are drastically changing the traditional lifestyles of some aboriginal communities, and affecting water quality and health. Yet news and reports are very rare on this increasingly pressing issue. Half of our country cannot be forgotten.

Is it getting hot or is it just me?

Radar To Detect Incoming Global Warming Bombs

This will give families time to evacuate and escape the ravages of CO2.

AN environmental expert has called for concerted efforts in developing an early warning system for Zambia to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

Zambia Climate Change Network chairperson Noel Zimba said this during a workshop on climate change awareness in Ndola yesterday that the response to creating a framework for an early warning system should embrace all stakeholders involved in handling issues related to climate change in Zambia.

He said without the stakeholders partnering the Government, the nation would fail to come up with a clear early warning system for climatic changes.

Mr Zimba said the Government had so far, managed to employ early warning systems in some parts of Zambia but more needed to be done to safeguard the country from the adverse effects of climatic changes.

He said the early warning system was an important element in Zambia’s preparedness for response to climatic changes, hence the need to invest in it.

Climate Models Indicate That The Frequency Of Global Warming BS Will Rise Through The End Of The Century

Investigators at Oak Ridge National Laboratory used nine global climate models assuming moderate levels of greenhouse gas emissions (the gases that build up in the atmosphere and trap heat) to compare the climates of 1991 to 2000 with 2091 to 2100.

All nine models found that climate would overall experience warming at the end of the century. However, they forecast that events of extreme cold would still happen, although they would occur less frequently.

“The fact that future extreme cold events will continue to be at least as intense and long-lasting in many regions of the world, even under warming scenarios, may not seem intuitive,” researcher Auroop Ganguly, a civil and environmental engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

So next time you are freezing your butt off, remember that while the cold may be intense – it has a lower frequency.
