Shock News : Toast Is Exposed To Radiation

I was devastated to learn this morning that my toaster works by exposing the bread to electromagnetic radiation. This is closely related to the radiation which vaporized people in Hiroshima.

If we are to live in a radiation free world, everyone must immediately send their toaster to the landfill recycling center.

Scientists Discover Warming Sea Surface Temperatures In The Central Pacific

Cold is the new hot.

Scientists at the University of Washington recently discovered a distinct correlation between warmer temperatures on the Antarctic Peninsula and increased surface temperatures in the central Pacific Ocean, near the International Date Line. Using satellite and surface readings, the researchers observed some of the “largest shifts in the Antarctic climate in decades,” and these were marked by significant increases in temperature

Shrinking Sea Ice In Antarctica Killing Penguins

Antarctic ice, which has hit record highs in recent years, is decreasing and increasing simultaneously.

http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seaice.anomaly.antarctic.png

Climate change has hit species of Antarctic penguins by causing a staggering decline in their prey: krill. A new study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) has found that both chinstrap penguins (Pygoscelis antarcticus) and Adélie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae) have seen their populations decline likely do to less krill, instead of habitat changes. Since 1970 krill populations have fallen by 80% in the Southern Ocean surrounding Antarctica. Because krill require sea ice to reproduce, shrinking sea ice from climate change has made it more difficult for them to breed.

Guardian : Trapped Heat From CO2 Is Freezing Peru

The first symptom of excess heat is of course extreme cold. Bring your parka to Death Valley next summer.

Climate change campaigners and development NGOs say that the failure of Copenhagen has signed the death warrant for hundreds of thousands of the world’s poorest and that a quarter of a million children will die before world leaders meet again to try to thrash out another deal at the United Nations next climate change conference in Mexico in December. Among them may be these children of the high mountains.

Enduring prolonged sub-zero temperatures is a matter of course for Peru’s indigenous mountain people, many of whom live at more than 3,000m above sea level. Scores die every year from the cold, but in recent years the number of people succumbing to the freezing temperatures has triggered talk of a national crisis.

This year the neighbouring district of Puno saw a severe spike in child mortality as the winter brought months of high winds and relentless ice storms. Government figures record that more than 300 children died in Puno in May last year from the cold; NGOs say that the figure was probably much higher.

Local government officers in Huancavelica could not provide figures for how many children died here last year, but admit that child mortality is rising in the region.

“There have been many dead children. I don’t know how many, but there are more and more and mainly the deaths have been from pneumonia,” says Rafael Rojas Huanqui, regional director for the Defensa Civil, the national disaster protection agency. “They have no resilience of any kind to deal with the weather getting colder.”

Does Bolivia’s Water Supply Depend On This Puddle?

We keep reading stories that Bolivia depends on glaciers for their water supply. Given that Bolivia hardly has any glaciers and that the ones they have are very small, Evo should evacuate the country immediately.

It isn’t clear to me how a $5 Trillion tax will help them out.
