EPA : Earth To Turn Red Hot Soon

Yesterday the story was that increasing CO2 has less and less effect – leading to scenario B. Except when it has more and more effect – leading to a tipping point.

The science of morons.

Garnaut – Climate Change Is About Confiscating Your Money

Let’s keep electing officials who hate us! It works well in the US and Australia.

Professor Garnaut, Julia Gillard’s chief climate change adviser, yesterday responded to fierce criticism from the electricity sector that his eighth and final climate change update — which recommends an urgent review of Australia’s energy market and regulatory regime — could undermine investment in the electricity industry.

Speaking outside an ANU climate change seminar in Canberra, he said: “Anyone who thinks that electricity prices have nothing to do with climate change mitigation and carbon pricing has clearly not followed the debate.”

Professor Garnaut said many people had seized on the rise in electricity prices on the heels of the “sub-optimal” regulation of the sector as a reason why pricing carbon would be difficult.

Doomed Wine Industry Having A Banner Year

Like the maple syrup industry, wine is doing fantastic – but will soon collapse into a fiery death of hellish tipping points.

The news: Early tastings of Bordeaux 2010 suggest it is probably just as good as the 2009, described as the vintage of the century.

The received opinion: This is because of global warming, which produces riper grapes, and better wine quality.

Wine experts are not climatologists. But wine literature is full of gobbledygook about global warming’s short-term benefits (which is said to have dramatically improved fruit quality in many regions) and long-term perils (which is predicted to destroy the wine industry).

The theory that the wine industry will have an epiphanic moment before dying out has caused winemakers considerable alarm and launched more than one seminar on the subject. Climatology is far from an exact science and one problem with much of what is written on the subject is sweeping generalisation. Even if one sets aside the controversy over the ‘official data’ on warming — the United Nations panel estimated that the average global temperature increased by 0.74 degree C in the 20th century — the world is not warming evenly. For instance, Germany recorded the lowest temperature ever in 2009 and New Zealand had record late snowfall in 2009.

Ignore Any Data Which Doesn’t Support Your Theory

Southern hemisphere doesn’t count. It isn’t behaving properly.

Don’t assume uniform warming – expert

”The more we’re learning about the Southern Hemisphere we understand that it has its own climate system that’s somewhat different.” He was part of research led by Dr Joerg Schaefer of Columbia University in New York, which has calculated in detail the retreat and advance of glaciers in New Zealand over the past 11,500 years and compared it with what happened at the same time in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers are still growing, despite global warming, apparently because of weather patterns bringing more cool, wet conditions to New Zealand.
