Carbon Taxes Are The Key To Creating Jobs

A comprehensive national program that provides funding for research and the incentives necessary to reach our goal of energy independence would create new, green jobs and help put the brakes on climate change, but the Republican Party’s determination to block the establishment of any kind of cap-and-trade system aimed at reducing carbon production means that strong, national market incentives for innovation and large-scale investment in alternative energy remain elusive.

Guardian : The Solution To Global Warming Is Shite

Generating power from human waste and resurfacing the UK’s road network are among the recommendations made by engineers in the most extensive study to date of how to protect the country’s infrastructure from the worst effects of climate change.

Extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, heatwaves and more intense storms are expected to become more common as the world warms. This means vital infrastructure – including transport, sewage and water treatment, and electricity and communications networks – is vulnerable to severe damage. But the UK is unprepared for these effects, according to the leading professional bodies for engineers.

“We need to have a debate on this – it all depends on what politicians are prepared to do,” said David Nickols, chair of the water panel at the Institution of Civil Engineers, and one of the authors of the report published today by the Royal Academy of Engineering and seven other professional engineering bodies, representing nearly half a million engineers.

Ten People In Thailand Fighting Global Warming

On Monday morning at The Chalermpragiat Bhumibol Activity Ground, Nongprue, the Grand Opening of Ratchapreuk Trees Planting Reducing Global Warming Project was conducted by Honda Company in cooperation with Channel 7 Thailand and Honda LPGA Thailand Committee.  The project was initiated in 2007 to try to help by reducing Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere by planting trees and protecting existing woodland areas, with a budget of 1.3 million Baht.

Honda along with Channel 7 have been concerned by Global Warming Effects, as there are obvious changes in climate and sea levels causing coastal erosion, with many droughts and floods worldwide recently.

Massive Hurricane Ravaged New Orleans 199 Years Ago

We can’t say for sure that this hurricane was caused by a lack of CO2, we we do expect to find more evidence that climate alarmists have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.

ScienceDaily (Feb. 6, 2011) — Nearly 200 years before Hurricane Katrina, a major storm hit the coast of Louisiana just west of New Orleans. Because the War of 1812 was simultaneously raging, the hurricane’s strength, direction and other historically significant details were quickly forgotten or never recorded.

But a University of South Carolina geographer has reconstructed the storm, using maritime records, and has uncovered new information about its intensity, how it was formed and the track it took.

Dr. Cary Mock’s account of the “Great Louisiana Hurricane of 1812” appears in the current issue of the Journal of the American Meteorological Society, a top journal for meteorological research.

“It was a lost event, dwarfed by history itself,” said Mock, an associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences. “Louisiana was just in possession by the United States at the time, having been purchased from France only years before, and was isolated from the press.”

Mock says historians have long known that a hurricane hit New Orleans on Aug. 19, 1812, but they didn’t know the meteorological details about the storm.

“Hurricane Katrina is not the worst-case scenario for New Orleans, as its strongest winds were over water east of the eye,” said Mock. “The 1812 hurricane was the closest to the city, passing just to the west. It wasn’t as big as Katrina, but it was stronger at landfall, probably a mid-three or four category hurricane in terms of winds.”

Greens Want To Burn Human Bodies To Heat A Swimming Pool

‘Green scheme’ will harness energy from crematorium to heat swimming pool

Heat from a crematorium will be used to warm a leisure centre and swimming pool in Worcestershire in a controversial green scheme expected to be approved tonight.

The Abbey Stadium leisure centre in Redditch will use waste heat from neighbouring Redditch Crematorium to conserve energy and costs. But the proposal, the first of its kind in the UK, has divided opinion and been described as “sick”, “eerie” and “insensitive”.

The Conservative council leader, Carole Gandy, said she expects the proposal will be passed by councillors this evening after its executive committee unanimously recommended going ahead with the project last week. “It has all-party support,” she said. “We estimate this method will provide 42 per cent of heat for the leisure centre, saving an estimated £15,000 a year. The use of waste heat energy is good practice and very innovative.”

Unison called on Redditch council yesterday to reverse its likely decision. Roger McKenzie, a regional secretary for Unison West Midlands, who has described the heating method as “an insult to local residents”, said: “It’s never too late for the council to reconsider its proposals. The big issue that hasn’t been considered is the very sensitive issue of consent: the council needs to explain how they are going to take into account the wishes of families who do not want their cremation to be used in the proposed fashion. Consent hasn’t even entered the public debate.”

New Mexico Supreme Court Determined To Destroy The State’s Economy

New Mexico Supreme Court Backs Climate Rule

Posted on January 28, 2011

You may have seen in our recent blog post that New Mexico’s governor was blocking a new state rule to limit global warming pollution. Well, here’s some good news: This week, the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the rule will go on the books.
This means that New Mexico will require major polluters to reduce greenhouse gas pollution by 3% each year, starting in 2013. And we hope this will encourage businesses to tap into New Mexico’s enormous potential for renewable energy. For example, New Mexico has some of the best potential for solar energy in the world.

New Mexico’s climate change rule was already finalized before Martinez took office, but the governor tried to block its publication in the official register — preventing the rule from going into effect. In the court ruling, state Chief Justice Charles W. Daniels said that “no one is above the law.”

But the fight isn’t over yet. The governor could still try to revise or overturn the rule. And New Mexico may also try to end its participation in an upcoming regional cap-and-trade plan for the western United States.

New Mexico has vast potential to develop clean energy resources that can reduce pollution and create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the coming decades. That’s why New Mexico should help lead the nation in reducing the pollution that causes climate change.
