WSJ : Global Warming Causes La Nina
LIMA (Dow Jones)–Peru’s anchovy catch is set to fall by about 40% this year due to climate-change factors, said the Minister of Production.
Jorge Villasante told newspaper El Comercio on Wednesday that the 2010 anchovy catch was down to about 3 million metric tons, from a more normal 5 million tons.
Peru is the world’s largest producer and exporter of fishmeal, which is made mainly from anchovies and used primarily as animal feed.
Villasante blamed the sharp drop in catch levels on a temporary climate change phenomenon known as La Nina, which cools Peru’s fishing waters.
In the same report, Peru’s National Fishing Society said higher prices would somewhat compensate for the drop in production, with fishmeal export values expected to fall by only about 10% compared to last year.

What Effect Does The Cold Weather Have On Koalas?
My research indicates that Koalas may be affected by the cold weather, and that they may have difficulty doing whatever Koalas normally do this time of year. This may end up also affecting whatever Koalas normally do later in the year. Ultimately, we may have a seasonally afflicted Koala population.
I hope to do further studies of how the cold affects Kangaroos and indigenous Human populations, which may also be affected by the cold weather.
This study was performed without any money from big oil.

NYT : CO2 Is Going To Kill Most Of The Life On Earth
Fossil fuel emissions, they say, are like a runaway train, hurtling the world’s citizens toward a stone wall — a carbon dioxide level that, over time, will cause profound changes.
The risks include melting ice sheets, rising seas, more droughts and heat waves, more flash floods, worse storms, extinction of many plants and animals, depletion of sea life and — perhaps most important — difficulty in producing an adequate supply of food. Many of these changes are taking place at a modest level already, the scientists say, but are expected to intensify.

It’s Joe vs. Piers
Now that GISS and The Met Office have indelibly soiled themselves and their profession (the oldest profession) there seem to be only two main players in the game.
My understanding is that Joe is forecasting milder European weather after Christmas, and Piers isn’t. What are your thoughts?

“Antarctica will soon be the only place to live”
Sunday, 2 May 2004
Antarctica is likely to be the world’s only habitable continent by the end of this century if global warming remains unchecked, the Government’s chief scientist, Professor Sir David King, said last week.
He said the Earth was entering the “first hot period” for 60 million years, when there was no ice on the planet and “the rest of the globe could not sustain human life”. The warning – one of the starkest delivered by a top scientist – comes as ministers decide next week whether to weaken measures to cut the pollution that causes climate change, even though Tony Blair last week described the situation as “very, very critical indeed”.
I’ll bet Saddam hid his WMDs in Antarctica.
