I first heard about global warming in the late 1970s. It seemed very believable, as there had been a dramatic climate shift in the southwestern US – where I was living. (We didn’t know about the PDO at the time.)
By the late 1990s, winters in Europe had gotten so mild that it almost never froze in London. The grass was always lush green.
Around 2000, a drought struck the US southwest. Fires burned up vast areas of forest. I remember looking up at the cloudless skies and imagining all that heat trapped by the CO2.
But then something unexpected happened. The climate turned cold and snowy, and it became obvious that something cyclical had occurred – like in the 1930s (only much less severe.)
Some of us grew up, evolved and moved on. Others still cling to discredited theories of the past.
Over the past few decades, tens of millions of people have moved from the Sun Belt to places like North Dakota and Michigan to escape global warming. Same in Europe – lots of people have moved from Spain and Italy to the more bearable climates of the north. Most people hate warm weather.
If you believe that, then immediately send $3000 to the estate of your deceased Nigerian uncle. You were always his favourite.
Over the last five years, satellite altimetry shows average sea level rising at 1.96 mm/year. This number is likely too high, but is considerably lower than the 3.1-3.3 mm/year normally claimed.

Note in the map below that the numbers are driven way up by a few areas (red) of likely erroneous data near the Philippines.

One minor problem. Snow cover has been steadily increasing and last winter had the greatest snow cover on record.

California to adopt ‘cap and trade’ to combat climate change
Green Energy
Taking the lead where Washington has wavered, California today is expected to adopt the nation’s most ambitious plan yet to curb global warming.
The California Air Resources Board is all but certain to vote to approve comprehensive “cap and trade” regulations designed to cut greenhouse gases. The regulations would impose limits, or “caps,” on emissions from large industrial polluters through permits, or allowances, that could be traded on a market.
California’s plans to forge ahead are in sharp contrast to the lack of action from Washington, where Congress has rejected cap and trade at the national level. While the state’s plans have drawn criticism from affected industries, the cap-and-trade program is expected to be a boon for Silicon Valley’s burgeoning cleantech economy.
“We are the innovators when it comes to figuring out how to reduce carbon,” said Bob Hines, energy director of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. “We’re really excited. It sends the market signal we’ve all been waiting for, and it’s going to lead to further job creation.”

The cold winters of the 1960s were due to global cooling, but the current cold winters are due to global warming. The common denominator is “whatever BS keeps funding coming in.”
Just another Enron scam.

Enron, joined by BP, invented the global warming industry. I know because I was in the room. This was during my storied three-week or so stint as Director of Federal Government Relations for Enron in the spring of 1997, back when Enron was everyone’s darling in Washington. It proved to be an eye-opening experience that didn’t last much beyond my expressing concern about this agenda of using the state to rob Peter, paying Paul, drawing Paul’s enthusiastic support.
