Snowdon will be snow-free in 13 years, scientists warn

Thursday, 18 January 2007

Those who originally named the peak spoke as they probably found it, calling it “Snow Dun”, from the Saxon for “snow hill”. But Snowdon may lose its snow cover within 13 years as a result of climate change, Welsh scientists say.

Snow has been disappearing for some time from the peak, the highest in Britain south of the Highlands, but the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) disclosed that this winter’s accumulation is the lowest since records began 14 years ago. With only a couple of snowfalls this winter, the total depths measured are way down on previous years and, if the trend continues, any kind of the cover could disappear by 2020.

World Freezes With Record Cold And Snow During Hysterical Global Warming Convention

And we thought people in the Dark Ages were superstitious.

It is the hottest year ever, and snow is disappearing, and icebergs are breaking off glaciers, and sea level is rising a metre, and Polar Bears are migrating south, and global warming causes AIDS and …..

Is there any limit to the dishonesty, corruption, and stupidity?

Beautiful Summer In Antarctica

The meteorological summer is into its third day, and Vostok, Antarctica is averaging minus 52F so far.

http://www.wunderground.com/

This is far below normal. The cold is due to polar amplification of unprecedented warming during the hottest year ever.

The Big Lies About Alaska

Alaska warmed several degrees in the late 1970s due to the PDO shift.

From The University Of Alaska :

Considering just a linear trend can mask some important variability characteristics in the time series. The figure at right shows clearly that this trend is non-linear: a linear trend might have been expected from the fairly steady observed increase of CO2 during this time period. The figure shows the temperature departure from the long-term mean (1949-2009) for all stations. It can be seen that there are large variations from year to year and the 5-year moving average demonstrates large increase in 1976. The period 1949 to 1975 was substantially colder than the period from 1977 to 2009, however since 1977 little additional warming has occurred in Alaska with the exception of Barrow and a few other locations. The stepwise shift appearing in the temperature data in 1976 corresponds to a phase shift of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation from a negative phase to a positive phase. Synoptic conditions with the positive phase tend to consist of increased southerly flow and warm air advection into Alaska during the winter, resulting in positive temperature anomalies.

The loss of sea ice in the western Arctic since 1980 was obviously caused by the same PDO shift which warmed Alaska’s North Slope.

As far as glaciers go, most of the glacial loss in Glacier Bay occurred before 1860.

Alaska “warming” has little or nothing to do with CO2, and it would be nice if certain “climate scientists” would quit lying about it.

Sea Level Fantasy In Cancun

From Speigel Online

According to the most recent estimates, the sea level is expected to rise by about 1 meter (3.28 feet) — on average — in the next 100 years. This is the number that will be mentioned again and again during negotiations at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico over the next two weeks.

That is much higher than even the high end of IPCC estimates. People saving the world feel entitled to make up numbers to support their cause.

The sea level currently rises by about 3 millimeters (0.1 inches) a year on average.

Not really. Tide gauges show much smaller numbers and even the questionable altimetry numbers have dropped well below 3.0 in the last five years. Even if it were true, it is less than one third of what is needed to reach one meter.

#3 Is The New #1

Wildly dishonest rhetoric.

2010 is well behind 1998 and it would require a huge spike in temperatures to match 1998.  All these people have left in their arsenal is disinformation.

SMH : “losing biodiversity faster than at any time in the fossil record”

http://www.smh.com.au/

Given that the fossil record contains a tiny fraction of a percent of the land based life record, it is rather astonishing that anyone could make such a statement – but that is the norm for the day.

The only thing unprecedented is the rate at which people make up global warming BS.

Spamming Global Warming BS

This story is all over the Internet today :

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska wildlife officials have released a report acknowledging that scientific and traditional evidence increasingly shows climate change at unprecedented rates throughout the Arctic.

The report released this week marks a departure for the state, which is suing to overturn the federal listing of polar bears as a threatened species because of declining sea ice habitat.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/

But when you get to the third paragraph you see  the substance :

The report, called “Climate Change Strategy,” says warming temperatures could affect Alaska’s bodies of water, leading to changes in sport fishing and subsistence opportunities.

In other words, probably just more BS from the usual culprits.

“2010 on track to be warmest year for Canada: UN weather agency”

CANCUN, MEXICO—Global warming has hit Canada harder than most other parts of the world and 2010 is on track to be Canada’s warmest year, the UN weather agency said Thursday.

http://www.thestar.com/

Hot in Canada? So why didn’t they hold the meeting in Winnipeg instead of Cancun? These clowns definitely have a sense of humour.
