WWF : The Islands Are Drowning

NOAA keeps track of sea level on thirteen islands around the world. The graph above shows their reported sea level rise rates in mm/year. The pink area shows the IPCC range of projected sea level rise 19-59 cm /century.

The average sea level rise rate on island locations is 1.22 mm/year, which is well below the low end of IPCC projections.

Even if there was no accretion of new material on these islands, it would take over 800 years for sea level to rise one metre, and 4,000 years to reach Hansen’s five metres.

Tuvalu thinks they can stop the seas by using renewable energy. Besides the obvious effect of the token actions of a couple hundred people on the global climate, it should also lower their tropical heating bills.

More Science Garbage Parroted By The LA Times

Rising sea levels are expected to significantly alter the state’s long coastline

Expected by whom? According to NOAA records, there has been no change in sea level in San Diego for 30 years. Same for La Jolla. Same for Los Angeles. Same for Santa Monica. Same for Santa Barbara. Port San Luis has never seen any sea level change. Monterey hasn’t seen any change for 30 years. Same for San Francisco. Alameda has never seen any change in sea level. Point Reyes has never seen any change in sea level.Port Chicago has not seen any change for 30 years. North Spit may have gone up a few millimetres, and Crescent City has been going down.

That is all of the functional NOAA sea level gauges in CA. Not only is sea level not “significantly altering” the California Coast, it isn’t altering it at all.

Scientists Are Feeding The Press Garbage

Study: Climate change may force skiers uphill
From the From the Associated Press
Tuesday, December 16, 2008

DENVER — A study of two Rocky Mountain ski resorts says climate change will mean shorter seasons and less snow on lower slopes.

The study by two Colorado researchers says Aspen Mountain in Colorado and Park City in Utah will see dramatic changes even with a reduction in carbon emissions, which fuel climate change.

If carbon emissions increase, the average temperature at Park City will be 10.4 degrees warmer by 2100, and there likely will be no snowpack, according to the study. Skiing at Aspen, with an average temperature 8.6 degrees higher than now, will be marginal.

2008 (the year of this article) was the best ski season on record in Aspen.

The closest USHCN station to Aspen with data from the last decade is at Gunnison , Colorado. There has been no warming there over the last 70 years, and the last two years have been among the coldest on record.

What Caused The Glitch?

On November 4, there was a little glitch in new Arctic ice formation, as seen in the black line below.

This was caused by strong winds in the Beaufort Sea pushing the ice away from the shore.

Washington Post Predicts That The US Will Warm More Than One Degree Per Decade!

The best science available suggests that without taking action to fundamentally change how we produce and use energy, we could see temperatures rise 9 to 11 degrees Fahrenheit over much of the United States by 2090.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/05/AR2010110507305.html

Lets see how realistic that is. According to NCDC, the US is warming at 1.2 degrees per century. (Half of that is due trend to upwards USHCN adjustments, but that is a different conversation.)

During the past decade (2000-2009) US temperatures have been falling at a rate of 7.3 degrees per century.
