Reefs and atolls are made out of CaCO3. Without CO2, the wouldn’t exist. They continuously grow and gain mass because of CO2.
The main threat to these islands used to be scientists nuking them.

Two years ago this week the press told us that the Democratic Party had assumed permanent ruling status over the US.
They predicted that catastrophe wrong, but are still forecasting that we will all drown or fry from global warming. Have things changed that much? Not really.
Here is what the press didn’t want to talk about in 2008.
John Cook says that volcanoes produce harmless amounts of CO2 :
Published reviews of the scientific literature by Moerner and Etiope (2002) and Kerrick (2001) report a minimum-maximum range of emission of 65 to 319 million tonnes of CO2 per year. Counter claims that volcanoes, especially submarine volcanoes, produce vastly greater amounts of CO2 than these estimates are not supported by any papers published by the scientists who study the subject.
