Dalai Lama : “These tragedies are not natural disasters, they are human disasters”

The Dalai Lama has been busy studying the science, and has come to the conclusion that humans control the climate.

“These tragedies are not natural disasters, they are human disasters. They are man-made tragedies,” he said when explaining the impacts of climate change. “It is our own carelessness,” he concluded.

This puts him in agreement with other spiritual leaders, including the Pope, Al Gore,  Leonardo Di Caprio, and Osama Bin Laden.

It appears that we have a consensus!

Past the Tilting Point

Many fields of science and engineering use Monte Carlo techniques, where random numbers are generated to model real world behaviour. This technique works because when working with large samples, errors tend to form symmetrical Gaussian distributions and average out to zero.

Climate science defies this concept by consistently adjusting older temperatures downwards and recent temperatures upwards. The assumption is almost always that older temperatures are defective because they were too high, and newer temperatures are the opposite.

Arctic Multiyear Ice Is Increasing

Note, all NSIDC maps below have been modified with new colour schemes to make them easier to understand.

I did some more analysis of the NSIDC maps. The graph above shows the progression of ice over the past year. The first three columns are measured directly from NSIDC maps, and the last column I took the liberty of advancing all the ages of the ice by one year for week 38. Note that there is more three and four year old ice than a year ago, and less five year old ice.

Shocking News : “This summer alone we lost about 50 percent of the sea ice on the Arctic Ocean.”

“I’ve traveled way over a thousand days of my life on the moving ice. I’ve lived on the ice, on the bear country,” said Arctic explorer, Will Steger. He has witnessed the changes firsthand. “And we’re seeing an incredible change in the sea ice, especially in the summertime,” said Steger. “This summer alone we lost about 50 percent of the sea ice on the Arctic Ocean.”

I was devastated to read this. And even more shocked to learn that sea ice has increased by 50% in just the last month!
