The claim was that the ozone hole was going to cause skin cancer in Australia by allowing too much ultra-violet light through the atmosphere.

There are lots of problems with this claim.

First problem is that the ozone hole never extends beyond Antarctica, and only appears in the winter, when there isn’t any sunlight. Ozone is created in the upper atmosphere by sunlight.  You can’t get skin cancer from sunlight during times when the sun isn’t shining. As soon as the sun comes back out over Antarctica, the ozone hole disappears.  How are people in Australia going to get skin cancer from an ozone hole thousands of miles away during winter when the sun is low in the sky?

Second problem is that the ozone hole size varies tremendously from year to year, despite relatively steady levels of CFC’s in the atmosphere. It is quite clear that CFC’s are not the controlling factor.

Just like the global warming scam, the ozone hole scam was another opportunity for government to tax and control, and another opportunity for scientists to imagine themselves saving the planet.

Sad that they burned all of our fossil fuels! As far as I can tell there is no evidence of any intelligent civilization now, so unlikely there was one 56 million years ago.

I spent a summer in Boulder when I was three, and the main thing I remember is that it was really hot. It never gets really hot any more.

If oil companies stopped selling their product here, Boulder progressives would be desperately hysterical in about 12 hours. But they are that way most of the time anyway.

Over the past 19 months, more than one trillion tons of new ice has formed on Greenland’s surface. This is because a lot more new snow accumulates each year during the long winter, than melts during the short summer.

The surface is rapidly gaining ice, and glaciers are growing.  So scientists and the press (of course) report the exact opposite.

NSIDC does the same thing with their MASIE data, because 2012 was the last year when there was any hope for the global warming scam. Since then, Greenland’s glaciers have been expanding.

I attended a debate in 2014 between Kevin Trenberth and Judith Curry, where Trenberth (literally) blamed the US warmth of 2012 on evil Republicans. 2012 was the last year when there was any hope for the global warming scam, so climate alarmists cling to it.

As CO2 increases, the frequency of hot days declines, Hot weather peaked at 310 PPM CO2.

Arctic sea ice volume continues to grow, and is the highest in four years.
