Cooking The Books – Part 2

Last week, The Met Office announced their plans to bump 2010 up to #1 by adjusting further corrupting the HadCRUT data upwards. This will be at least  the second time this year which they have bumped up 2010 temperatures.

In July, they raised January-April temperatures  by a substantial amount.

I wrote the text below at WUWT on July 28, 2010.

HadCrut still shows 1998 hotter than 2010 so far, but they seem to be working on “correcting” that problem.

Why is it that post facto adjustments always seem to be upwards in later years, and downwards in earlier years? This whole global temperature business looks like a complete joke to me.

Well, if we’re gonna trip down memory lane, here’s what I wrote in response, the first time.

“Well, if they didn’t adjust upward, then we run afoul of the meme about 2 independent study groups coming to the same conclusion.

“The keyword here is blackwhite. Like so many Newspeak words, this word has two mutually contradictory meanings. Applied to an opponent, it means the habit of impudently claiming that black is white, in contradiction of the plain facts. Applied to a Party member, it means a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this. But it means also the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the contrary. This demands a continuous alteration of the past, made possible by the system of thought which really embraces all the rest, and which is known in Newspeak as doublethink. Doublethink is basically the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.”

      Thanks for this.

I did not understand it first time either!

        I’m being too cryptic?

      • suyts says:

I fear I am being too cryptic. Allow me to try and explain, and please forgive me if I come across as arrogant or condescending.

The first part of the quote was just me parroting what I had said back in July. One of the cards the CAGW house is built upon is that there are 2 distinct groups with independent data reaching the same conclusion. This has been shown to be entirely false, in that most of the temps collected are shared and the two groups frequently exchange notes. (see climate-gate e-mails) They are anything but independent of each other. So to continue with the facade, they have to continue to reach the same conclusions. This is why we’re seeing the alterations of history, especially in regards to the recent changes in HadCrut. Its very difficult to blather about global warming when the data reflects a decade of cooling.

The rest of the quote is from Orwell’s 1984. At this point, I should probably write an article and give it to Steven or someone for posting a discussion, but instead of clarity, I’ll shoot for brevity. As noted by Steven, myself and many others, the similarities between the CAGW team and Orwellian practices are striking. In this particular case, Blackwhite is apt. Currently, party climate ararmism discipline is demanding HadCrut change their temp readings. It must be done to preserve the “independent/same conclusion” illusion. Also, this demands that many have to forget it was ever different. 2010 is the hottest ever, 1998,1934, 2005, none of the were ever as hot as 2010, even though, historically, we know this isn’t true. It is only true after adjustments are made to make 2010 the hottest ever. But loyalty to the cause demands that it was never the case. As Orwell points out, this type of thinking, this way of being demands continuous alterations of the past. We have seen examples of historical alterations from both entities GISS and HadCrut, and many other climate data collecting entities.(check NOAA’ recent claim of hurricane frequency.) Right now, we’re witnessing HadCrut embrace the principles of doublethink, but more specifically blackwhite.

There are, of course, volumes more to write about this and the parallels of Orwellian totalitarianism and the mindset and practices of alarmists. Sadly, I see I’ve failed at both brevity and clarity, but I’ll have to leave you with this. “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.”

Of course – I knew you meant this all the time!

Fluid History! What you experienced 20 years ago was not what happened!
    suyts:
You only imagined you read that passage in that book! Is there any real world evidence, that I can see out my window, today, that the book, or even the author even existed?
    😉

    • suyts says:

Yes, what a vivid imagination us skeptics have. 1934 wasn’t the hottest ever, polar bears are going extinct, the ice age scare never happened, FOI laws weren’t violated, McIntyre never broke a hockey stick and the MWP and LIA never existed. Book? What book?

I have not commented in any other fashion than humor as your posts speak for themselves and the Orwell 1984 is consistent with what we are watching from the ACC CLB!
I did put a 😉 to show I was joking!
    I enjoy reading your contributions!

    • suyts says:

Yeh, I caught that and thought I’d play too. Sometimes my sarcasm comes off a bit off, but thanks. I enjoy many of your posts, too.

I am certain you realize we are contributing to both Mr Wizard and Romper Room at the same time.

yeah, or today for that matter.

    • Mike Davis says:

You are only dreaming what you experience today. The climatologists will be able to tell you what you experienced next year!
