He seems to have backed off a bit from 2007, when the Navy said their 2013 “ice-free Arctic” forecast was “already too conservative.

    The Navy wants 200 Ice Breakers to patrol the Ice Free Arctic Ocean. For a ear Admiral he seems to have forgotten some Naval history such as subs at the North Pole.

    What you good people don’t understand is that they keep making the 10 year / 5 year predictions all the time so you will never catch them out. It’s like FREE BEER TOMORROW.

    He predicts an ice-free Arctic in late summer by 2020. Without a shield of permanent ice, the fabled north-west passage, the graveyard of Arctic seadogs for centuries, will become a maritime superhighway.
