  1. Mike Davis says:

I would consider that as fantasy meeting reality. I guess she failed to clean her Crystal Ball properly!

  2. This news is classic!

Don’t worry Vicki, what you’re seeing out the window is a thing of the past.

  3. Espen says:

Haha! That was funny, thank you 🙂

(what’s not so funny, is the thought of those that made it to Cancun, enjoying their poolside drinks and chatting about their imaginary future warming disaster – while the very real problem right now is that dozens of Europeans have died from the cold in the recent days)

  4. PhilJourdan says:

I think it is called I-R-O-N-Y.

  5. Sean says:

My first reaction is to say “God does indeed have a sense of humor”. But I think theres more here.
Politically, the Kyoto agreement is dead with the US not going along for several years as a result of the mid-term elections, China and India reluctant to accept any limits on developing nations no matter how much CO2 they emit and Japan has just made clear they are done with the structure as it exists. Mother nature is now adding her two cents to the argument, making climate scientists look like a bunch of idiots. (The Reference Frame has a great quote from Feynman today about the definition of science who once said, “Science is the believe in the ignorance of experts”. )
My guess is Ms. Pope will be needed on her home turf to defend the repeal of the climate legislation the UK enacted 2 years ago. If the current weather in the UK persists all winter, there will be a ground swell pushing changes by spring.

  6. Mike Davis says:

If Pope Vicky really wanted to get to Cancun she could have used her Mach 5 Broom Stick with a climate controlled virtual mini cabin!

  7. TheJollyGreenMan says:

You forgot to mention that the Met Office, under the stern and guiding hand of Dr Pope keep on winning major scientific prizes like this one: –

That is for Long Term forecasts!

Am I the only one that are so happy about this comeuppance?

It is Just a pity she doesn’t have the bits of the brass monkeys that can freeze blue while waiting for the runway to be cleared of snow!

  8. Gator says:

    Let It Snow

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fraud is so delightful,
So off to Cancun we’ll go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

We have no plans for stopping,
    And your cash we’ll soon be copping;
    The curly lights really blow,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

When we’ve given you a good fright,
    About some drought or a storm;
And if we get our way you might,
Not be able to keep yourself warm.

    The fraud is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we’re all still lying,
But as long as we’re in Mexico.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

  9. Lawrie Ayres says:

I can’t help thinking about the furious adjustments that various world experts were making to the temp record to achieve the nearly hottest ever. And still one month to go. Freezing in the north and quite mild here in the south with abundant rain. Still our Dr. Jones, head of BoM is ramping up the warming hype. Three months ago he predicted average conditions in the east and wet conditions in the west and then along comes Ms Nina. Very wet and mild in the East and very dry in the West. 100% wrong and still he predicts. Cretin.

  10. John Marshall says:

I wonder if she still thinks that spending £33m on a Cray was a good way to spend taxpayer’s money?
It did say in October that winter was to be drier and warmer than normal. Well lass, that may be but the weather says otherwise and free of charge as well.

  11. Piers Corbyn says:

What Vicky Pope needs is better forecasts than she provides to herself; in particular our WeatherAction long range winter forecast and more specifically our two – three days ahead warning that the end November snow and ice in Britain would be much more severe than Met Office short range models would say – see
    http://www.weatheraction.com/displayarticle.asp?a=276&c=5

The Met Office are now nervously trying to say more than usual and as normal they try to pass off descriptions of current events mixed with a stack of “maybe”s (remember every “maybe” is also a “maybe not”!) as forecasts.

Their MODELS cannot tell anything useful beyond a week or so and we (WeatherAction) can now see when they will go wrong under the most important circumstances just two days ahead.

It is interesting that their new “maybe cold will carry on past Christmas” suggestion appeared only AFTER our WeatherAction Long Range forecast of a long cruel hell-to-freeze-over winter with few milder breaks. Perhaps Vicky Pope read our forecast on her iphone while she was stuck at the airport!
