Champions League Sticky Thread

This stays at the top until Saturday. My thought is that there isn’t any question this year that the two top teams are playing. What do you think? Messi or Shrek?

Barcelona is travelling two days early because of the volcanic ash cloud.

    Messi!
Barcelona are the best footballing side I’ve ever seen, including Real Madrid in the 60s
and various Inter and AC sides in the 70s and 80s. Only Brazil ca 1970 come close.

  2. Anything is possible says:

As a Brit, my heart says Manchester United, but my head says Barcelona, and I don’t think it’s going to be close…….

  3. Alexej Buergin says:

Americans will never understand football when they see that old chap Ryan Giggs is the one mentioned most often in the newspapers, Ryan Giggs is most mentioned on Twitter, and Ryan Giggs is even mentioned in parliament. Ryan Giggs obvioulsly must be a great man.
Most goals scored in Spain during one season: Ronaldo, 40, 2010/2011, not playing at the final.

    • It is the 19th century sideburns that I like.

    • Anything is possible says:

Insert “Derek Jeter” in place of “Ryan Giggs” and Americans would understand that just fine…

The concept that a sporting contest can end in a draw is what really messes with their heads.

Insert “Derek Jeter” in place of “Ryan Giggs”

Ryan Giggs is extravagantly overrated average player? That is the similarity?

Appropriate entry at the Onion about Derek Jeter:

“Derek Jeter Honored For Having Fewer Hits Than Harold Baines”

Following Derek Jeter’s 2,722nd career hit Friday, Yankee fans and teammates took a moment to honor the all-star shortstop for having 144 fewer hits than former journeyman designated hitter Harold Baines….. Jeter, who received a six-minute standing ovation, multiple video tributes, and hours upon hours of media coverage for being 144 hits behind Harold Baines…….. Jeter’s 2,722nd career hit not only puts him in the company of Yankee legends, but also ranks him with an elite group of 675,000 additional baseball players past and present with fewer hits than Baines……… Though Jeter prides himself on his team-first attitude, the Yankee shortstop was visibly excited to step into the shadow of Harold Baines…… Fellow Yankee players were equally excited for their teammate, rushing the field to congratulate Jeter on successfully becoming a professional baseball player who has fewer base hits than Harold Baines, and only slightly more than Omar Vizquel and Bill Buckner……..

A game ending in a tie isn’t really the problem. It’s the idea of continual running with so very little scoring.

      Americans will never understand football

      We understand REAL football.

      ;o)

  4. Gurgeh says:

Got to be Shrek! Hernandez to score and Giggs will get a standing ovation for nailing Imogen Cooper.

    • Alexej Buergin says:

      No, no, no.
Imogen Cooper is a pianist. You owe her an apology.
The real problem are the UK judges who think that because of “uman writes” everybody half famous should be protected, like Strauss-Kahn or Huhne, by those injunctions.

Many years ago, I tried explaining Test cricket to some American friends : They were pretty freaked out by the idea that a sporting contest can last 30 hours, spread over 5 days, but when I further informed them that well over half the games ended in draws , they lost it completely.

  7. Anything is possible says:

    ROTFL at the video :

You just have to know that many hundreds of man-hours went into planning the whole operation with meticulous detail, except for the one thing they overlooked……

    Love it!

    • Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

It seems they shouldn’t have overlooked such an obvious thing. Someone dropped the ball.

    Unfortunatly probably Barca .
We’ve got shrek but also princess Fiona (Berbatov) and donkey (O’shea) so its hardly a fair fight 😉

  10. Independent says:

Disagree that the top two teams are playing. I think if Man U had played Real Madrid in the semis we’d be seeing Barca-Real in the final.

    Anyway Barca to win comfortably.

    • Glc says:

The odds being offered on United winning the CL are tempting enough for me to have a bet on them.
United will handle Messi a lot better than Real did. The longer it stays at 0-0 or 1-1, it will suit United. The game may well go to Extra-time.

The Champions League is the icing on the cake. The UK Premier League is recognised as the strongest league in the world.

We all know who the Premier League Champions are, for the 019th time!

Hopefully a good game on Saturday which will be watched in a relaxed atmosphere by the true MU fans, their main objective having already been secured!

    Enjoy the game.
