Another major hurricane hit NC on September 16, 1933 so that is a total of three major landfalling hurricanes in 12 days.
In addition a 4th hurricane (CAT 2) caused a huge tidal surge and up to 10″ of rain from Norfolk to DC on August 23, 1933. Eighteen people died in the DC area alone.
So in 24 days, the US was struck by 4 distructive landfalling hurricanes. We should keep that in mind when the media starts hyperventilating about a couple CAT 1 storms during the past season.
