The Appalachians are having record early ski area openings, thanks to an overheated atmosphere which produces excessive amounts of cold air.
The earliest season opening ever for Sugar Mountain ski resort in Banner Elk takes place Wednesday, after more than 6 inches of snow fell Monday and Tuesday. Also opening Wednesday is the Cataloochee ski area in Maggie Valley — evidence that the snow also fell in the western mountains.

Next summer, remember to crank up your furnace when you want to cool down the house.

Cold, hot….the team don’t care. They’re too busy patting themselves on the back for having the intuitive prescience to change the name of their sport from ‘global warming’ to ‘climate change’.
But that too will work to their disadvantage.
Was a time when the bases seemed to be always loaded with Slugger Libmedia at bat. But along with the name, the game has changed. With every year that passes, more and more fans are losing interest in the same ol’ aging lineup with the same trash-talk coming from the dugout. The cheerleading squad has all but dissapeared. Sponsors are quietly not renewing contracts. The Team’s Current TV is up for sale for lack of viewership. The injured reserve list keeps growing — Peter ‘Fraudster’ Gleick comes immediately to mind. And panic has no doubt set in as Mikey ‘Trickster’ Mann hobbles up to the plate surely to be picked apart by Mark ‘Curveball’ Steyn on the mound.
Yeppers, hot or cold, the future doesn’t look good for the Mudville Profiteers regardless of their latest game plan. They’re playing to an empty stadium.
Snow in October is entirely consistent with a warming planet, even though snow is a thing of the past. Or whatever.
