A joint military operation targeted the home of an assault rifle owner in Yourcity today. The rifle, ammunition, high capacity magazines, computers and the potential terrorist were removed from the premises and taken to an undisclosed location. A handgun was also discovered and was taken away to the FBI crime labs for analysis. What is really frightening is that the perpetrator had no previous record of criminal activity, so a background check would not have stopped him from obtaining weapons.
America is a safer place this evening.

Cats can be wonderful pets, but the real problem is feral cats. Like any other living creature, they need to eat.
We have removed most of the natural predators of the small species in this country – at least in Urban areas. cats serve the purpose of keeping the small species in check as a replacement predator. They serve a valuable and necessary niche in the eco system to avoid rapid over population, and denuding of the vegetation.
The facts of life are – some animals eat – and others are eaten. And no amount of wailing or gnashing of teeth is going to change that fact.
Where I live we need no additional predators, the coyotes, bobcats and panthers take care of all vermin issues except for domestic cats. I had to buy a trap to round up all the man made predators on my property, dumped by idiots who think that the countryside wants their cats, when they do not. Before I started trapping, I watched as virtually all of my game animals disappeared. No rabbits, no quail, no turkey, and no pheasants. My patio smelled of cat piss and the kittens were destroying my landscaping, stripping the bark off trees and breaking branches. I had to surround young trees with chicken wire to keep the bastards off of them. One kitten even broke my damn rain gauge! They kill for sport and breed worse than rabbits.
I have a “Havahart” trap, and simply relocate them to the city, where they belong. Now the wildlife is back and things are good. I keep the trap handy for the next a-hole who will dump his unwanted cat in my driveway.
Gator – note my first clause – “at least in urban areas”. In rural areas, such as you describe, we have removed the predators of the cats (wolves, coyotes, etc.), so the cats are now the “run amok” species.
There is a big difference between rural and urban as far as wildlife and their impact on the environment.

I just listed the predators in my area, the only missing predators are the black bear and wolf. Cats are not needed and not wanted in rural areas, scientific literature addresses this in depth. The reason they are not eaten by the predatory fauna is because they are such nasty creatures, nobody wants to eat them. They are disease carrying bags of teeth and claws.
I have no problem if you want an indoor cat, but they should never be allowed to roam.
When I lived in Germany, a hunting course was required to obtain a hunting license. By law, if a hunter spotted a kitty more than 100 feet from any structure, he was required to send it to kitty heaven.
