Yes, fractures are definately a sign of melting and increasing heat. You know, like the steel in the WTC. When it got hot, it fractured in brittle deformation. Just ask a truther……
Would be nice if there was enough twitter space to tell the full story:
“…According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) in Boulder, Colo., this fracturing event appears to be related to a storm that passed over the North Pole on Feb. 8, 2013, creating strong off-shore ice motion. The event is unusual but not unheard of, as similar patterns were seen in early 2011 and 2008. However, the NSIDC said the fracturing this time is more extensive…”

Ice fracturing as we’ve seen over the last month over the Arctic basin is a sign of ice growth.
It works like this…
Strong high pressure over the central Arctic Ocean has winds around it which flow clockwise and spread out. Ice fractures, new ice forms in the leads which open and the extent pushes south along the front of the main pack ice.
When there’s strong low pressure across the arctic air flows counter-clockwise and inward toward low pressure. Sea-ice compresses and the extent moves north.
High pressure over the arctic used to much more common over the 70’s through mid-80’s when there was lots of sea-ice growth across the arctic basin. Low pressure reigned from the late 80’s through the early 2000’s. Since then there’s been more of a dipole pattern…up until this winter…
This winter has seen high pressure once again return to the arctic for much of the winter and the results have been obvious.
Oh The poor ice… so… Vulnerable! Bwaa haa haa!
Next we’ll be hearing about those mean ol’ Icebreakers and smelly cruise ships gashed open by a decrepit defenseless iceberg.
If you go down on the ice today you are in for a big surprise..if I could be assed to explain to the dumb ass sea ice blogs it would go like this, if you get gaps (cracks) in the ice you get preasure ridges…preasure ridges are what make multi year ice…it is a bit like plate tectonics with subduciton zones etc. The arsloches have never been on ice and believe it is like a billiard ball ha ha ha.

Don’t be surprised when a crack in the ice
Appears under your feet
You slip out of your depth and out of your mind
With your fear flowing out behind you . . .
As you claw desperately at the disintegrating fragments of the Anthropogenic Global Warming Hypothesis.
Gil Gamesh is a real charmer…
“For an urban cop in the US, murdering a black man is a good career move.”
With followers like this, who needs immature psychotic racists?
Sounds like the long-time troll “erg” at AoS.
Who is Gil Gamesh, and why is he covered in global warming?

Behold – the human “Magic 8 Ball”
He shakes his head back and forth a few times, and out pops the next brainless and inane scare.

That storm was clearly made more violent and extreme by all the excess heat trapped by CO2. Ice did not fracture before the fossil fuel orgy began.
Surely we can tell enough of the story.

Large splints applied…

“preasure ridge” – might be “Pleasure” ridge?
Sounds like a bar in Thailand I used to frequent.
🙂
Arctic ice as become second only to maybe a solar eclipse in generating hysterics in primitive men.
My keyboard skills still primitive: ‘Arctic ice HAS…’
If only these greenies looking for warming would stop using icebreakers..
Yes. The nuclear powered icebreakers. Greenies just don’t understand irony.
I am sure the public will be terrified about a crack in the Arctic ice. The end is near!
Ice fracturing in the Arctic is a sign that Guam has passed the tipping point and is on the verge of sliding into the ocean.
saw them all to often when i was in the arctic….nothing new…move along….

Ominous crack in McKibben’s brain, more like. Someone needs to let him know,,,
