Drought may be new norm for UK, says environment secretary | Environment | The Guardian

The permanent drought of 2012 turned out to be the wettest year on record.

During the early Easter of 1913, the poet Edward Thomas rode his bicycle from London to the Quantock Hills in Somerset, writing the classic In Pursuit of Spring. One hundred years on, our search for spring is increasingly desperate at the end of probably the coldest March for 50 years, following the wettest year ever recorded in England.

Wonder how well that “genetically modified” seed will do in areas of flooding. Maybe the farmers will be required to plant a half drought/half flood crop.

From Duncan Ray, James Morison and Mark Broadmeadow of the British Forestry Commission September 2010 –
The changing climate presents a challenge for forest planning and forest management in England because the projected increases in temperature, changes in the seasonality of rainfall, and an increased frequency of extreme events add complexity to species selection and silvicultural practice. By actively adjusting forest management now, to anticipate future changes, we can hope to increase resilience by reducing exposure to risks in forestry and in the goods and services that woodlands provide for society. Tree growth will increase in some areas and decline in others, and the effects will vary with species. Some relatively less known species will become more suitable – including some from other continents and current climates more similar to those projected for England. New approaches to woodland management will be required to address the threats of drought and increased risk of damage from pests, diseases,
      wind and fire.

And yes they wasted several million British pounds implementing this.

Is there any way we can get the leftist ecoalarmists to switch places with the leftist economists? We could finally have a recovering climate, and the proper sense of urgency and cuts where finances are concerned.

This might be an April Fools Joke but the tag line in priceless, “Guardian Goggles: because life’s too short to think for yourself” http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/video/2013/apr/01/guardian-goggles-video. This is the best motto I’ve seen for a liberal in a while.
