The coverage of sea ice in the Arctic has scarcely changed since the 1979 peak, and is about the same as it was in the early 1970’s.

Just like “climate change” meaning “human caused climate change” I expect they mean “summer death spiral”. They’re too lazy to qualify most of what they say, and they’re totally wrong anyway; complete incompetence.
It is not summer. They only care about ice extent for one week in meteorological autumn – after the sun has set.

I have a question about this “death spiral”. That seems to be a reference to an object falling through space as an uncontrolled aircraft can go into a “death Spiral”. But these aren’t pilots talking, they are supposedly scientists and as such should they not be more concise in their language? I mean isn’t the geometric figure their trying to describe really a helix? I know a spiral can include 3D but when it does it is a helix. Their terminology seems less than mathematically precise to me.

Yes, propaganda, pure and simple. The CAGW cultists (you can look at the facts and decide for yourself whether “cultist” is simple description or simple propaganda) want people to be frightened, so they use scarey phrases like “death spiral.”
Everyone knows that when you watch a movie, the music sets the mood of the scene. Sweet violins playing? Someone is going to get kissed… Low throbbing bass notes? Ooohh, scarey! Someone is about to get hurt!
The main stream media does the same to us with desirable phrases or scary phrases. Islamic fundamentalists who fought the Soviets were “freedom fighters.” Islamic fundamentalists who fought the US were “terrorists”. When our President goes to an underground shelter, he is in a “secure command bunker.” When Sadam Hussein goes to an underground shelter he is in a “spider hole.” When The Federal Reserve creates a boatload of money for its friends, they call it “quantitative easing.” When an individual does the same thing they call it “counterfeiting and bank fraud.”
Very few people make decisions based on reasoning. Almost all make decisions based on emotions — and then pick a rational justification for their decision. If someone can present a fact to you in such a way that it triggers a specific emotion, they have already determined what your decision will be.
This is all about Leveraging a Political Agenda… more taxes, more Centralized control, more control over energy, money, … your Freedom..

Of great interest will be the possible greater extents on the Atlantic side of the Arctic this Fall and Winter. SST anomalies are starting out on the cooler side this year. In fact, the entire N. Atlantic is cooling off, as is Hudson Bay.

Brian D presents a map that is difficult to interpret for 3 reasons. It is for a single day so whether the SST is warming or cooling is not something that can be seen on the map. The colors appear to repeat. For one example: is yellow -9, +3, or +15? The 3rd issue is the distortion of shape that increases in the high latitudes. Consider the yellow/red area off of Baja and then look at the area between the Chukchi Sea and the East Siberian Sea (near Wrangel Island). A person looking at this map might go away with the impression that the Wrangel Island bright-colored region is much larger than the Baja bright-colored region and, therefore, of much greater importance. That impression will be wrong.
Have you seen this Tony? Jennifer Francis thinks there is no ice at the Arctic and that’s why we have prolong cold periods in the mid latitudes. It just boggles my mind with the garbage these people make up. The sad think is that many people believe it.

These “scientists”, have been paid well to scare us. A little theatrics, some flowery language, some hand-wringing, and these losers get filthy rich. No integrity, but, they’ve got money!

Reading the forum you linked to reminded me of a circle of children sitting in a dark room. One child has a flashlight under his chin and is telling a scary story about CAGW.
