Merry Christmas And Thanks

Merry Christmas to all, and a special thanks for all your support this year. Being a prominent skeptic has been extremely hard on my career. Without the generous donations of readers, I don’t know how I would have gotten through this year and made it out to Washington DC.

Last week I met with staff of some of the key senators in the next Congress. The presentation went very well, and I hope that the senators and staff have the courage to follow through and do the right thing.

Your blog is the first one I look at each morning and several times during the day. Thanks for the education although I don’t understand all of the technical information.

Best wishes to you, Tony, this Christmas season.

You’ve been a voice of reason and sanity against the Chorus of JustShutUp Consensus.

Terrific that you had some face time with Senators. You are our unofficial Ambassador of Reality

    • What Jim said.

It’s ironic that you are not only the advocate of conscious resisters, but also of the untold millions who have never heard of you, who never looked into the matter and who simply believe the institutions and the media.

Even more ironic, your work will also benefit the many accomplices in the scam, because regardless how much money and fame they now get for pushing it, in the end—with the exception of true sociopaths—most of them wouldn’t want to live in a world following a failed civilization.

  10. Quinn the Eskimo says:

Merry Christmas! Thank you for the tremendous amount of hard and effective work you do. It is very much appreciated. I certainly hope you can keep it up in the new year.

    Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays all.

And a special thanks to Tony for his hard work.

Reading this blog is one of the daily joys in my life. It’s the only blog that I regularly read and occasionally comment on.

I don’t go much for social media because I refuse to denigrate the term “friends”, but I think I’d enjoy sitting down and enjoying a beer with a lot of y’all. I get the feeling that there would be few lulls in the conversation.

    • Gail Combs says:

Merry Christmas Tony and thank you for all you have done.

I have really enjoyed your website.
      ……
      To Dave1billion,
Having managed to have dinner a couple of times with a fellow skeptic I met through the internet, I can tell you there were NO LULLS in the conversation and the waitresses had to kick us out both times.

  14. Merry Christmas and a Bountiful New Year! In case any of those Senate staffers mention a concern about the industry-corrupted skeptic scientists accusation, you know where to send ’em for the debunking.

  15. Don Easterbrook says:

Tony–Thank you for all your efforts in shining light in dark places of government agencies. We have come to depend on you to show what NOAA, NASA, GISS, and other agencies are really doing to data.

    Don

  16. annieoakley says:

Merry Christmas! I love your blog and have really learned a lot. I always knew Bill Gray was right but didn’t know why I never heard from him anymore. And yes being a denier will harm a career.

  17. jamzw says:

I question that you are a warming skeptic. That implies doubt. The warming hustlers have left no doubt to their true intentions. Would you consider yourself a skeptic over the theories of the Flat Earth Society?

Skepticism is a virtue, and especially so in a scientist. That was once a given but by 1940 von Hayek noted that it was a professional virtue which could no longer be assumed of scientist. And the word itself, like many words describing virtuous traits, has been turned on it’s head by the enemies of truth. So an honorable term is used by “progressives” to demean the observation of those who do not buy into a hoax, and we are trapped by the abuse of language into acknowledging the legitimacy of our enemies.

    • Gail Combs says:

Excellent point. The progressives have a long history of twisting language and also of stealing the virtues accrued by their enemies and claiming them for themselves. They are constantly rewriting history to do this.

George Orwell made the rewriting of history a major point in his book 1984. We ignore that point to our peril.

    • scizzorbill says:

@jamzw: I agree. Skeptic implies that it might be true, but you’re not on board with both feet. Denier means you refuse to accept the truth. I am a 100% rejectionist. A climate atheist. I don’t believe one word of the fraud.

O/T The Swedish Christmas Goat, Gävlebocken, complete with snow has so far survived without being set on fire.

    http://www.visitgavle.se/en/the-gavlegoat

    • Gail Combs says:

In honor of the Swedish Goat:

‘Twas the night before Christmas with things all a bustle
As Mama got set for the Christmas Eve tussle.
Aunts, uncles and cousins would soon be arriving
With stomachs all ready for Christmas Eve dining.
While I sat alone with a feeling of dread,
As visions of lutefisk danced in my head.
The thought of the smell made my eyeballs start burning.
The thought of the taste set my stomach to churning.
For I’m one of those who good Swedes rebuff:
A Scandahoovian boy who can’t stand the stuff.

Each year, however, I played at the game
to spare mama and papa the undying shame.
I must bear up bravely, I can’t take the risk of relatives knowing I hate lutefisk.
I know they would spurn me, my presents withhold,
if the unthinkable, unspeakable truth they were told.
Then out in the yard I heard such a clatter,
I jumped up to see what was the matter.
There in the snow, all in a jumble,
three of my uncles had taken a tumble.

My aunts, as usual, gave them “what for”,
and soon they were up and through the door.
Then with talk, and more cheer,
an hour was passed as Mama finished the Christmas repast.
From out in the kitchen an odor came stealing,
that fairly set my senses to reeling.
The smell of lutefisk creeped down the hall
and wilted a plant in a pot on the wall.
The others reacted as though they were smitten,
while the aroma laid low my small helpless kitten.
Uncles Oscar and Lars said, “Oh, that smells yummy,”
and Kermit’s eyes glittered while he patted his tummy.

The scent skipped off the ceiling and bounced off the door,
and the bird in the cuckoo clock fell on the floor.
Mama announced dinner by ringing a bell.
They pushed to the table with a yump and a yell.
I lifted my eyes to heaven and sighed,
and a rose on the wallpaper withered and died.
With wooden legs I found my chair
and sat in silence with an unseeing stare.
      Most of the food was already in place;
there remained only to fill the lutefisks space.
Then Mama came proudly with a bowl on a trivet.
You would have thought the crown jewels were in it.

She placed it carefully down and took her seat,
and Papa said Grace before we could eat.
It seemed to me, with my whirling head,
the shortest prayer he ever had said.
Then Mama lifted the cover on the steaming dish,
and I was face to face with the quivering fish.
“Me first,” I heard Uncle Kermit call,
while I watched the paint peel off the wall.

The plates were passed for Papa to fill.
I waited in agony between fever and chill.
He would dip in the spoon and hold it up high.
As it oozed on the plates, I thought I would die.
Then came my plate, and to my feverish brain
there seemed enough lutefisk to derail a train.
It looked like a mountain of congealing glue:
oddly transparent, yet discolored, the hue.
      With butter and cream sauce I tried to conceal it;
I salted and peppered, but the smell still revealed it.
I drummed up my courage, I tried to be bold.
Mama reminds me, “Eat, before it gets cold.”

I decided to face it, “Uff da,” I sighed.
“Uff da, indeed,” my stomach replied.
Then I summoned that resolve for which every breed is known.
My hand took the fork as with a mind of its own.
And with reckless abandon that lutefisk I ate,
within twenty seconds I’d cleaned my plate.
Uncle Kermit flashed me an ear-to-ear grin,
as butter and cream sauce dripped from his chin.
Then to my great shock, he whispered in my ear:
“I’m sure glad this is over for another year!”

It was then I learned a great and wonderful truth,
that Swedes and Norwegians, from old men to youth,
must each pay their dues to have the great joy
of being known as a good Scandahoovian boy.

And so to you all, as you face the great test:
Happy Christmas to you, and to you all the best.

As one of my in-laws used to say – That D@m Stuff!!!!

  19. Merry Christmas Steve. Someday there’s going to be a “Goddard’s Law”. It will prove that fraud cannot survive in an era of open data, when utilized by relentless volunteer defenders of science… I see you as the leader of, and the most productive in that group, by far.

  20. lance says:

Merry Christmast to you and your family Tony and to all your readers.

  32. Marsh says:

Best Wishes to you Tony over the festive season ; you deserve a Nobel for the good work you have done in real Science…

  33. Andy DC says:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for Tony and all the other great commentors on this site. Our New Years Resolution should be full Congressional Hearings to expose this sham for what it is! Plus defunding of certain Government agencies, that have served as little more than propaganda mouth pieces for a quasi-communist political agenda.

  34. Miboupop says:

    Merry Christmas, from France!

  35. Barbara Stockwell says:

This site has been a very great pleasure all year, and a day isn’t complete unless I have looked in several times. Tony, you are so prolific (“producing abundant works or results” or “turning out many products of the mind” –love my dictionaries!) ; but I do worry about how little you sleep!
Anyway, I learn so much and enjoy so many of your intelligent commenters. I learn a lot from them, too. It gives some hope that just possibly the obvious will strike the AGW crowd. I visualize giant light bulbs (I guess CFLs wouldn’t be so good. So, maybe it will have to be lightning.) dropping down and felling each one. Splat! The idiocy makes me so tired! A young man asked me the other day, “I guess you don’t believe in global warming?” AAARRGGGHH! Of course, I believe in global warming and in climate change, etc.!! Catastrophic!! No!! Where I live down near the Mexican border, we like heat, and know how to adapt to it when necessary. Our temperature range from the low each day to the high makes a joke of the 2 to 4 degree C.
I digress: Actually I want to share a piece which Gail Combs’ post triggered for me. There are several versions, but this one is anonymous (so no copyright issues).
Twas the noche before Christmas and all through the casa
Not a creature was stirring: Caramba! Que pasa?
Los ninos were all tucked away in their camas,
Some in vestido and some in pijamas.
The stockings were hung, con mucho cuidado
In hopes that St. Nicholas would feel obligado.
To bring all the children, both buenos y malos
A nice batch of dulces and other regalos..
Outside in the yard there arose such a grito
That I jumped to my feet like a frightened cabrito. (Goat!!)
I ran to the window and looked afuera
And who in the world do you think that it era?
St Nick in a sleigh and instead of venados
Were eight little burros approaching volados.
I watched as they came and this quaint little hombre
Was shouting and whistling and calling them by nombre,
Ay Pancho!, Ay Pepe!, Ay Cuca! Ay Beto!
Ay Chato! Ay Chapo! Maruca! Neto!
Then standing erect with his hands on his pecho
He flew to the top of our very own techo.
With his round little belly like a bowl of jalea,
He struggled to squeeze down our old chimenea.
Then huffing and puffing at last in our sala
With soot smeared all over his red suit de gala
He filled all the stockings with lovely regalos,
For none of the ninos had been very malos.
Then chuckling aloud, seeming muy contento
He turned like a flash and was gone like el viento.
And I heard him exclaim, and this is verdad
“Merry Christmas to all! Feliz Navidad!
(Sorry I didn’t feel up to tackling the correct Spanish punctuation.)
Merry Christmas. Happy New Year to all of you here, and especially to our valued, appreciated leader: Tony.
    Live long and prosper!!

  41. Disillusioned says:

Merry Christmas Tony, and regular contributors. A brilliant bunch here who helped to bring me to disillusionment. The propaganda machine is very powerful. Thank you for your tireless work to counter it with real science and empirical data.

  42. A C Osborn says:

    Merry Christmas to all.

  43. aeroguy48 says:

You are doing Gods work, not Jamie Dimon of JP. About the only good thing of the Republicans taking control of the Senate is their ability to appoint Republicans to head committees. I hope and pray they expose the fraud of global warming.
