Dear mentally challenged climate experts,
350 million people heating their homes in their asphalt neighborhoods where the snow has been removed, affects the temperature more than 0.01 degrees since 1960.
That is why every night the weather forecaster says “and a few degrees cooler in outlying areas.”
But I do want to thank you for the non-stop comedy you provide.
Tony, could you list the various excuses used for adjustments?
I know there is
1. TOBS = Time of Observation
2. Switch form liquid in glass to electronic thermometers
3. Urban Heat Island Effect
4. Station moves
Are there others?
The only one they explicitly address in USHCN 2 is TOBS. Everything else is munged together in a final adjustment which is completely opaque mathematically.
I have seen a 10C difference between Calgary and my small town just to the south…it was the largest I’ve seen, but UHI between Calgary and where I keep temps for Environment Canada is noticeable may days…(in the fall….frost warnings, we will hit -3 and Calgary airport will have a low of +5 c)…so, Gavin must adjust my temps up since mine will be the outlier…NOT!
They do not understand the Urban Heat Island effect which is operational both winter and summer. Instead, as Tony points out daily, they have reversed it making the countryside hotter. This is insane.
Roy Spencer said the same thing on John Stossel show when he “debated” Gavin.
Even climatecentral knows the UHI effect is a real thing

Fascinating.
And the US government want to get control of the internet so they cannot be exposed as frauds. Just like Russia, China, Cuba’s internet is $10/hour. Imagine Nancy Pelousy controlling what one can read.
UHI very easy to measure for yourself. And just super simple to measure if, like me, you live in a city close to an abrupt change to a rural setting. Here in Phoenix I repeatedly measure typically 5 to 7 degrees difference. Amazing so little expert research is pointed at the specifics.
Not scientific by any means but I’ve noticed that the thermometer in my truck will drop 2 to 3 degrees C as soon as I leave the city limits.
The left denies UHI and UVI, the Urban Violence Island, and pretends both are continental issues.
Tony, what’s the rationale for making a positive UHI adjustment in the early part of the record? The implication is that urban centres were artificially cooler than rural areas back in the olden days, but I can’t think of any reason why.
