Wrong Way Jimmy Got Antarctica Exactly Backwards

In Hansen 1984, he predicted that peak sea ice loss from global warming would occur in the Weddell Sea of Antarctica, and that all of Antarctica would lose sea ice.

Instead of losing sea ice, Antarctica has been gaining sea ice at a rate of 84% per century.

And the peak sea ice gain has occurred in the Weddell Sea, right where Hansen predicted sea ice loss.

Hansen’s career has been dominated by being wrong about almost everything, going back to his PhD thesis where he absurdly blamed Venusian heat on particulates in the atmosphere.

And then Gavin took over… and made it even worse. !!

    • omanuel says:

Repeated errors is a COMMON THEME in backgrounds of the most extremely talented propaganda artists.

The entire last issue of Science in 1975 was devoted to the discovery of SHE (SUPER-HEAVY ELEMENT) fission in meteorites by a University of Chicago scientist, E. Anders (aka perhaps E. Alperovitch), who had earlier received a PhD degree from Columbia University for discovering the existence of element Technetium in nature.

So far as I know, both discoveries were equally valid!

The papers published in the last issue of Science in 1975 successfully prevented the public from accepting that fission of the Sun’s neutron-rich core birthed the entire solar system five billion years (5 Ga) ago and produced the “strange xenon” discovered in meteorites in 1972 and published in Nature, 1972.

I will post a link to that 1972 paper below.

  2. Jimmy has sea ice forming around Antarctica at the same time of the year as snow in Tibet. Perhaps he thinks winter happens in both hemispheres at the same time.

We all know that Venus heat was caused by her beauty. 🙂

Sounds like dear ol Tim Flannery in Australia. 100% wrong nearly everytime LOL

  5. Great, so when do we start telling the government scientists:

If a prediction you put your name on while working for us turns out false, you forfeit 70% of the government money you were paid for your work!

    And:

Three strikes and you’re out for good from the government gravy train!

What’s that you say? Many Republican Congresscreatures do not endorse such tactics?

My, my. I wonder, why ever not?

    • Menicholas says:

In all seriousness, it is way beyond odd and way up into the surreal when people who purport to be scientists make exaggerated projections and speculations nearly every single time they open their mouths, put pen to paper, or let their fingertips touch a keyboard, have been doing so for year after year for decades in some cases, and have rarely if ever been correct or even nearly correct about anything…and yet continue to garner not only fat paychecks and lard-encumbered grants, but somehow are accorded not only further attention but are looked to with deference in some circles!

Adjectives of scorn, disbelief, and bewilderment somehow fail me at the moment. I think this situation actually calls for new words to be invented since it utterly defies explanation using standard English.

  6. Disillusioned says:

When presented with all this massively disillusioning data, what do the emotion-based CO2-phobic climate deniers do? They parrot the same tired meme (they say presenters of all this disillusioning reality are “fossil-fueled climate deniers”).

The 10, 15, 18 year falsification dates have come and gone. We’re quickly approaching 20 years of no warming. The falsification dates seem to continue getting lengthened. I suppose some will now say we need 25, 30 or even 50 years; they’ll apparently say anything at all to make sure Washington, D.C. keeps approving the CAGW gravy train.

Kevin Trenberth has wriggled, but has pretty much admitted their house of cards is collapsing. Other warmist scientists have begun to hedge away from the failed CO2-centric warming claims; some have joined with skeptics in denouncing CAGW as a failure.

All they had to do was say, it looks like climate forcing of CO2 is not as strong as our hypothesis (and models) led us to believe. Instead, they have been systematically adjusting the data to fit the hypothesis. Hansen retired and got away virtually unscathed, with his gullible religious followers fawning all over him on the lecture circuit.

The suckers left holding the bag will be the likes Schmidt, et al., who would not stop bastardizing the climate record, long past the point of no return for any reasonable, palatable, logical explanations. When the climate Ponzi scheme collapses, somebody will take the rap.

    • Jason Calley says:

“All they had to do was say, it looks like climate forcing of CO2 is not as strong as our hypothesis (and models) led us to believe.”

If they were at all interested, even a little, in the truth, they would have said exactly what you mention. The reason why they have not said that, is that they are not interested in the truth. They are interested in power and control — and this CO2 story is the scam that let’s them control YOU and tax energy used anywhere on the planet.

We need to get some broad based support,
        to capture the public’s imagination…
So we have to offer up scary scenarios,
        make simplified, dramatic statements
and make little mention of any doubts…
Each of us has to decide what the right balance
is between being effective and being honest.”

        • I. Lou Minotti says:

“The common enemy of humanity is man. In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome. The real enemy, then, is humanity itself.”

What a bunch of goddamn modern-day Malthusian miscreants.

    • They may start falsifying the satellite record to sync it up with the falsified thermometer “record” (which is now less a record and more of a Crayola-fueled fantasy).

Then, they can say, “See, you deniers were delusional all along.” In other words, they will try to make us take the rap for their fraud.

      • Jason Calley says:

“In other words, they will try to make us take the rap for their fraud.”

Yes, I am not sure HOW they will blame us, but be certain that they will, in fact, blame us. Even if the Earth slips into another glacial period, it will be our fault. They will tell us, “Look what you’ve done! If only you had let us implement carbon tax and rationing, we would have a framework in place to fairly allocate energy to all the freezing people now!”

In the meantime, I am waiting for someone to call me a “denier”. I already have a response. “Denier? No! I am not a denier. I am an accuser. I accuse you CAGW cult members of fraud. You’re a bunch of liars!”

    • Caleb says:

“what do the emotion-based CO2-phobic climate deniers do?”

They plan a cross country ski trip to the Russian base at the North Pole. It only costs around $15,000.00.

It is always a bit of a circus in April, up there. This year got off to a bit of a bad start, when the landing gear of the second jet arriving crumpled, but now they’ve got that fixed and the circus is proceeding.

      https://sunriseswansong.wordpress.com/2015/04/13/jets-landing-gear-fails-at-pole/

I wonder if the jet-setters ever ask themselves, “If the arctic is in a death spiral, how is this jet landing up here?”

  7. Brad says:

Meh, but the Land Ice is Melting. The Land Ice is Melting. See, fixed it for ya. (sarc)

    • darrylb says:

Actually the glaciers have melted ia little, that is a reason for the oceans rising..
However, the evidence shows the rise has been constant since the depths of the little ice age more than three hundred years ago.
There is some evidence to show the rise rate is decreasing (not much yet) and the rate statistics have been made artificially higher by other means. In any event, the rise really is not detrimental.

Put money where your mouth is, chumps…

So to the bet I propose. Subject to contract, I’m offering to pay Maurie $100,000 if the mean area of the combined Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets averaged over the year 2024 shall be less than 90 percent of the mean area of the two ice sheets averaged over the year 2014, provided that Maurie agrees to pay me $100,000 if the mean area of ice on the two land masses in 2024 shall be 90 percent or more of the mean area in 2014.

That’s the bet, and it’s a very fair and generous bet, Maurie. After all, you say all the ice on the two ice sheets will be gone within a decade or so. I’m offering you the chance to claim a fat $100,000 if more than one-tenth of your predicted ice loss happens by 10 years from now.

But wait. There’s more! Again subject to contract, I’m willing to offer four more climate bed-wetters the same deal. Perhaps the editor of the Melbourne Aaarghwould like to take me on. Or some of the various climate-fascist billionaires. Steyer? Gates? Branson? Anyone?

To deter time-wasters: If you want to take up the bet, you must produce a solicitor’s letter to show you have the means to pay out on it when you lose; then, upon signing the legal contract for the bet, you must pay (and so must I) $10,000 up front to the Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta in Rome for its charitable work in 140 countries worldwide. The Order keeps the 10% from each of us in any event.

Any takers? No, I thought not. Cowards, the lot of you. All talk and no action. You all know as well as I do that you don’t believe even one-tenth of the lurid predictions you make or publish.

As just about every opinion poll now shows, the rest of the world doesn’t believe you, either. You can repeal freedom and democracy – and, at Paris, you will – but you cannot repeal the truth. Gaia won’t let you.

    Slippin’ Jimmy?

    • Disillusioned says:

He said recently he doesn’t take back any of his predictions. So, he should jump at the chance.

    • darrylb says:

Gator, May I join you in making the bet with whomever?
I will just add a little to whatever you are putting up.
And to show confidence, I will meet at a certain location, where all parties can put the money in the custody of a trust handled by a lawyer.
We will see how much confidence them folks have in their religion of environmentalism!

      • gator69 says:

All of my money is tied up in land, except for my retirement funds (Which I cannot touch without serious penalties). Besides, none of those paid shills for the multi-trillion dollar Climate Change Industry believe their own crap. But if you can find one dumb enough to make that bet, let me know, as the payback would exceed the penalties.

Otherwise may I suggest crowdsourcing? Gofundme.com?

To quote Woody Allen: “It’s a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.”

  11. KTM says:

Evidence based science is passe. You’re not dealing with rational people. They don’t even consider cost-benefit analysis, why should they be bothered that Antarctic ice is behaving in exactly the opposite way they predicted?

You’re dealing with people who’s worldview is not based on reality or probability, they are driven by the magnitude of the pain that might possibly be caused by the most extreme and unlikely scenarios. People who are UPSET if the ice grows instead of shrinks, or temperatures cool instead of warm. People that lose their sense of being if mankind isn’t ushering in the coming cataclysm by burning fossil fuels.

    • Jason Calley says:

“You’re dealing with people who’s worldview is not based on reality or probability”

Ouch! It’s true… and that’s why it hurts!

Only a wealthy and prosperous society can afford to promulgate insanity. Once the tolerated craziness grows to exceed a certain level, the society can no longer function efficiently. Infrastructure falls apart. All the wealth and prosperity goes away. The newly impoverished people have to scrabble to make a living — which is just another way of saying that people are forced to pay attention once again to pragmatism and realism. The stupid people wise up… or else! Rinse and repeat.

The simple truth is, you can not run a technological society with stupid or insane workers. (Nor with stupid and insane legislators.) I was recently at a customer site where they had instituted a new rule. Employees were no longer allowed to shake hands. Shaking hands is touching and all touching (ALL touching!) was forbidden. This was a very large Fortune 100 company, and its lawyers were not taking any chances.

Consider the educational level of the average new entrant into the work force today, and compare that average worker to the average of twenty or forty years ago. In my opinion we are seeing the early stages of infrastructure failure now.

      Just my opinion…
