Riding up to Harper’s Ferry this morning I got lucky and saw this beauty across the river in Virginia.

Harper’s Ferry is a grand place of many sorts of beauty any day, particularly in autumn. And spring. And summer. And winter. What we used to call seasons of the year but which is now called climate change…
There would have been a dozen of them but global warming/climate change has decimated their numbers./sarc
There are a few here in Indiana, the nearest along the White River near Indy. When fishing in Canada they’re like seagulls when you start cleaning the fish.

Last February I took a raft trip down the Colorado River below Hoover Dam. And there was a Bald Eagle half way up the canyon wall enjoying lunch.

The bird books say they can be found in every state in the union. Truly a gorgeous bird.
I saw a pair (with a nest) a bout ten miles from the house on a road I travel frequently.
A few minutes later, the unfortunate bird flew into a wind-turbine and was chopped to bits.

Lucky you! I have never had the experience of seeing a eagle.
If at all possible it seems you need to get out and go some places. There is a big beautiful world out there.
I have been around and traveled. It takes money to travel, therefore, I stick locally. The next three years will be different.
Traveling is fun. Enjoy it while you are young.
I belonged to a caving group and we never paid for hotels. An English caver (Uni prof.) came over to Canada with the name of one caver. He got passed from group to group where he joined us on a trip to Mexico. We then passed him on to a group traveling to South America.
The cavers in the EU did the same for me when I was over there. I paid for food and my share of gas and normally got a bit of floor to sleep on for free.
Yes, I did the yute hostile in France and traveled but it still cost money. I would not even have any money for food. Almost of retirement age and will be constructing a house on wheels
Down here in Oz, we have a lots of smaller hawks, falcons, osprey etc, and then this guy.

When I was out bush I saw them occasionally, and a friend actually had a local one he could feed, so long as he put the meat on the perch and backed off a few metres.
ps , I also went to a Raptor sanctuary in Tassie once.. several of them with injuries recovering before being released, and a couple that were ‘permanent residents’ because of injuries that would not allow them to survive in the wild.

AndyG55 No,,, I love them all… these wedge tails are incredible characters. They are powerful and they know it. Interesting how they take ownership of their territory and can attack animals the size of sheep. I have also seen them feed on road kill, where they will often defend their find, against passing cars… these are birds with attitude.
He certainly has that don’t mess with me look.
He should be the state bird of Texas.

Considering that in Washington we now have Morodor on the Potomac, it is nice to see the eagles coming. I hope this is a sign.
