So now Colorado requires three in a car to use the express lanes?
Yes, and they have to be living.
Too bad…
I guess Hillary’s Limo doesn’t qualify then.
Good one, Gail.
Incredible zoom on that P900 for little over 5 bills. Your gonna cost me some cash after I viewed some associated videos on youtube. One wonders what else is out there “in use” on flying devices! Thanks for sharing Tony.
Of course you probably scared some snowflakes by posting that. No matter, they have safe spaces! Enjoy…..

That is a good sized Beaver. Front range?
I think it might be an otter.
Animal Identification Throwdown: Otter vs. Beaver vs. Muskrat
Have fun.
Bottom line from your post:
“Of course, if it’s swimming with a fish in its mouth, that’s a dead giveaway. Beavers and muskrats are herbivores.
So, if you see a furry swimming thing in Yellowstone’s lakes or rivers, ask yourself the following questions:
– Can I see the whole body flat along the surface? Yes
– Does it have protruding ears? No
– Is it small (1-2 feet body length)? Yes
– Is it feeding on grasses or diving for aquatic plants? Yes
Likely answer: Muskrat
– Can I see the whole body flat along the surface? Yes
– Does it have protruding ears? Yes
– Is it bigger (2-3 foot body length)? Yes
– Is it feeding on willows or carrying large branches while swimming? Yes
Likely answer: Beaver
– Can I see the whole body flat in the water? No
– Is it traveling very fast? Yes
– Is it traveling in a group? Yes
– It is catching fish, snails, salamanders or leeches? Yes
Likely answer: Otter
– Can I see the whole body flat in the water? No
– Does it have protruding ears? Yes
– Is it bigger (2-3 foot body length)? No, it’s actually much bigger!”
Hard to tell without scale nor tail but Muskrat is my guess.
It’s no otter, and not likely a beaver given the fur, so I am with RAH in calling it a muskrat.
Wiskers would be visible in that picture if it were an an Otter.
If it had scale, wouldn’t it be a snake or a fish ? ;-)
Time for morning coffee !!
Wise guy…
But you missed the one further down the thread ;-)
I don’t know what it is. It is not a muskrat as I have caught too many of them and I know what they look like, rats. Beavers have a large black flat tail and I think I see that in the picture. The orange fur is odd but I thought it might be the light, or a ‘front range’ Beaver.
I looked at the picture again and it really looks like a beaver to me. Muskrats are rats but a beaver has a much bigger head and not as pointy around the nose.
look at the ears.
No ears. Not a thing in the rodent’s mouth that I can see. No ears and the tail is whirling so I concede it is an orange muskrat. Beavers do have a larger head (more like a lab) and the ears stick out some. Beavers have two huge, three or four inch long, Orange front teeth.

It was a tough call without scale. But the little ears and the bushier fur are what stood out for me.
In the back woods of Vermont I came across a beaver that on it’s hind haunches stood as high as my waist and I’m 6′. Mature beaver are not small animals. In survival their ponds are a god send because of sustenance found in and around them. Lived off trout fry caught in one of those ponds for a couple days and those fry were caught on bait that were bits of frog we had gigged around the next beaver pond down stream from the one we were fishing in. It was obvious that the Fish & Game people had been there before blowing their dams because the clearing was much larger than the ponds were but beavers just don’t quit and they had come back and rebuilt.
Tony and CW
Joe Bastardi says the 6 to 10 days shows “Denver is going to get slammed”. Heavy snow coming for you and an severe weather outbreak from Texas across the SE US.
Well that sucks.
There goes your barbecue party.
I’m hoping for it, we need the moisture.
I hope this happens ! Yes! I have Revive, and Milorganite on my lawn. Sloppy wet snow is exactly what I have been looking for all winter. We can do without the severe weather anywhere. I knew it was coming, just hope it doesn’t stick on my siding and take the new paint off when it melts.
I’m outta here. Headed for Canton, MS. Driver got sick in IL. Take an empty to him and hook to his trailer then take it down to the Nissan plant to deliver.
So you drop bad weather news on us get out. ?
Good luck on the road.
… & get out.
It was 88 deg. and sunny down there in southern Mississippi . First time I’ve used the A/C in the truck this year. Departed at 05:30 Tuesday and got back 15:00 Wed. 686 mi down with a load of plastic trim for Nissan automobiles and PU trucks.
Drop at warehouse, go to office, get paperwork for trailer full of dunnage, search for trailer for 1/2 hour and hook to it and pret-trip it. Drive 23 miles back up I-55 to find a place to park at a little Truck stop. Pay $8.86 for three chickens strips and 3 jalapeno poppers, and a bottle of Fuze mixed juices. Eat dinner, pull the curtains and read myself to sleep.
02:00 alarm goes off. Clean up, shave with electric shaver and brush teeth. Drink first cup of coffee from thermos while getting things set up to go. Do pre-trip inspection and head out at 03:00. Stop to fuel at last Pilot going north on I-55 in Mississippi. (Not allowed to fuel in Missouri or Illinois) Heavy rain and some wind in Memphis and most of Arkansas along I-55 then clearing. Back here to drop trailer at yard at 15:30. 1,336 mi round trip in 34 hours.
I always enjoy your trip reports, RAH.
And it’s good to see you back.
Thanks CW.
Think I’m done for the week. Perhaps be able to finally burn off my burn pile and pick the dead fall out of the yard to get it ready for when mowing is needed. The temps will be warm enough so it’s just a matter of the wind behaving.
Be safe, my friend.
At last you found some short leg buffalo.
This?
They look like these without the horns

I suppose that this is how the megafauna must have looked like but bigger.
What would have been the caloric need of a big Mammoet in winter ?
The elephants at the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park eat less than their wild counterparts—about 125 pounds (57 kilograms) of food each day—because they don’t have to burn as many calories looking for food. Still, the adult male African elephants at the Safari Park need to eat over 70,000 calories each day!

If a T-rex were released in New York City, how many humans/day would it need to consume to get its needed calorie intake?
https://what-if.xkcd.com/78/
You could ask T-Rex directly.
Right now he is munching on Urinalists from the Yellow Stream Media. I think the next thing on his menu is Swamp Critters in the DC swamp.
What do they mean, “could”?
No wonder he needs horns..
He can’t see where he is going !!
Those tolls are really cheap!
I use the Nikon S9900 as my travel/pocket camera. I rarely ever use my DSLR and lenses any more because the little Nikon does 95% of what I need, with the remainder being primarily night low light photography. I was hiking in a canyon last weekend and passed a guy lugging a heavy 600mm lensed DSLR and tripod and having to stop and rest a lot. I kinda felt bad for him while I was much more mobile with the same telephoto capability in my shorts pocket and found the big horn sheep he was searching for.

Wow! great picture.
I almost like the Ocotillo more.
