yes – because it started from such a very low level… the lack of ice in late September and October was exceptional.

    • Gator says:

Not near as low as the average of the past 9000 years. Why don’t you ever mention that Ms Griff? Is it because you hate poor brown people?

    • neals says:

Tell me griff, are you a continually failed predictions denier?

What, if anything, would be necessary for you to acknowledge that the whole doomsday cult of CAGW is wrong? If nothing could possibly change your mind, then you are a religious fanatic as opposed to someone amenable to reason.

So which one is it? Could anything falsify your ill-placed belief in CAGW or are you a religious fanatic?

    • tonyheller says:

It was because of very rapid ice growth in the Hudson Bay. But thanks for the FUD!

      • Rob Manzoni says:

        Hi Tony,

I’m fighting the good fight here in Cape Town, but organisations like New Scientist – and even the Smithsonian – make it difficult for a non-scientist with no “climate standing” to make a serious point.

The general scientific ignorance of the public is astounding – even in little things – and this doesn’t help me when I give a talk, or hold a discussion at local public meetings.

The following two links explain my situation.

        New Scientist:

        Yours:

        ——————————–

Thanks for all you do for us. Your open data bank is invaluable.

  2. Gerald Machnee says:

That warming has caused the ice to jump – *just as predicted*

  3. Anon says:

I like the post but the title is too modest. If Gavin Schmidt were reporting this he would have used a different title:

Largest Increase Ever Recorded in the History of the Planet

  4. rah says:

The Arctic ice metric they seem to be concentrating on now more than any other from what I see on my news feed is a supposed loss of the old ice. Of course this is the time to do that just before the new year.

  5. ItsGettingHotinHereSo says:

The Chukchi Sea which has had above normal sea surface temperatures for a long time is getting impacted by the arctic air that is plunging down towards the Bering Strait. It is now rapidly freezing over. I would expect the NSID arctic charts to show “all white” within a week and that region to be at the median. Ventusky, which, Tony references, shows the wind patterns along with temperatures at 5 cm and 2 meters. Lots of incredibly cold air in that area.
