Thanks Joe for the brilliant insight.
The South-Asian country of Bangladesh is prone to the natural disaster of flooding due to being situated on the Ganges Delta and the braided with many tributaries flowing into the Bay of Bengal. The coastal flooding twinned with the bursting of Bangladesh’s river banks is common and severely affects the landscape and Bangladeshi society. 75% of Bangladesh is less than 10m above sea level and 80% is flood plain, therefore rendering Bangladesh a nation very much at risk of further widespread damagedespite its development, especially as its present flood defenses are unsustainable and somewhat amateur. Flooding normally occurs during the monsoon season from June to September during the monsoon. The convectional rainfall of the monsoon is added to by relief rainfall caused by the Himalayas. Meltwater from the Himalayas is also a significant input.
Each year in Bangladesh about 26,000 km2, (around 18%) of the country is flooded, so far killing over 5000 people and destroying 7 million homes. During severe floods the affected area may exceed 75% of the country, as was seen in 1998. This volume is 95% of the total annual inflow. By comparison only about 187,000 million m3, of streamflow is generated by rainfall inside the country during the same period. The floods have caused devastation in Bangladesh throughout history, especially during the years 1966, 1987, 1998 and 1988. The 2007 South Asian floods also affected a large portion of Bangladesh.
New Orleans below sea level, and gets flooded by Katrina—that’s global warming, not foolishness for building below sea level.
Its very difficult to garner sympathy for a bunch of people that build in flood plains and then whine to people half the world away. Hey Bangladesh, the U.S. doesn’t cause it to flood, but if you’re going to attach CO2 to flooding, look to your north you dip$hits. You worry about your side of the world and we’ll take care of this side. In the meantime, buy some boats.
But the people to the north won’t send them any free Sympathy money, the U.S. might if they whine and cry enough.
I remember the 1966 flood vividly (shows you my age). Indeed, it appeared that Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) was hit by severe floods or cyclones every year in the late sixties. For those that enjoy history, in his infamous book, The Population Bomb, Paul Ehrlich advised Pakistan to allow East Pakistan to separate because over-population meant that the country would never be able to feed itself. So much for the accuracy of his forecasts!
The rest of the world has been rescuing Bangladesh since it became Bangladesh. It is the poster child for charity handouts and what those result in!
So Joe states the obvious and SAYS throughout history this has been happening, so far so good; BUT its because of AGW!!!! “WTF”. IF it has happened thru history then it will happen again and again, Its a FLOOD PLAIN, DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bangladesh has been gaining land for decades – the consequence of this flood plain / delta: the rivers have been depositing soil faster than the sea can take it away.

Never confuse idiots (Romm) with facts. They tend to get violent when exposed to the truth that bursts their religious bubble.
