The Washington Post is claiming that a one hour long downslope warming event at one location in Antarctica is evidence of global warming.
At 6 am on March 24, Esperanza Station had strong westerly downslope winds which raised the temperature for an hour. By noon, temperatures had dropped and by mid-afternoon were back to freezing.
How anyone could be dense enough to believe this has anything to do with global warming, defies explanation.
Yesterday’s and last weeks’ weather in Esperanza Base, Antarctica
TOBS issue? 😉
🙂
There are enough of them in the global warming cult.
The cult consists of gullible dolts and the leaders of gullible dolts.
The gullible dolts also believe that a base operated by the Argentine military is a civilian base.
Unprecedented!
Because this type of weather event would not have been recorded in the days before continuously recording electronic instruments.
Not Unprecedented and not a record and not anything new.
There really is not an easy way to explain chinook winds without getting into some pretty technical meteorology, but no discussion of Black Hills weather would be complete without mentioning the chinook. The reason is that the Black Hills of South Dakota are home to the world’s fastest recorded rise in temperature, a record that has held for nearly six decades.
On January 22, 1943, the northern and eastern slopes of the Black Hills were at the western edge of an Arctic airmass and under a temperature inversion. A layer of shallow Arctic air hugged the ground from Spearfish to Rapid City. At about 7:30am MST, the temperature in Spearfish was -4 degrees Fahrenheit. The chinook kicked in, and two minutes later the temperature was 45 degrees above zero. The 49 degree rise in two minutes set a world record that is still on the books. By 9:00am, the temperature had risen to 54 degrees. Suddenly, the chinook died down and the temperature tumbled back to -4 degrees. The 58 degree drop took only 27 minutes.

We like to advertise our weird weather, keeps the rift-raft out.
In 1955 a team in Pincher Creek, Alberta measured a difference of 55 F over the distance of one block during chinook conditions. A paper describing the event was published in the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society..
The Foen effect happens alot in Scotland. Inverness and other eastern cities can reach 15 or 16°C in dead of winter as a strong westerly wind rushes up the mountains on the windward said, drops it’s moisture and warms on the leeward side of the mountains. There were some go examples this last winter.
At 17C surely that snow would melt?…
17°C air temperature for an hour or two is going to melt all the snow?
No, but the Föhn endangers the fertility of the Lovelockian human breeding pairs at the base. The Argentine military will not ask the British NHS for strategic advice on the nation’s survival but they will go with settled science:
———-
A man’s testicles should be one or two degrees cooler than the rest of his body. Tight underwear, hot showers and hot baths can all raise the temperature of the testicles and slow sperm production.
If that were true, the Scottish would have taken over the Earth.
Or is this maybe the issue?

I can see how it could be a problem but I think the holdup is somewhere else. Look how long it takes to get dressed and tell me if the Scots could possibly have time for anything else in their lives:

This Scot is a tartan kilt guru. Watch him rolling on the floor and tell me how sexy you think the ladies could find him. Would they want to roll with him?
There is advertising and there is everyday life:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBgcnLDiOLo
It’s not about how long it takes to get dressed.
And the ladies in those commercials certainly were not running away.
I still say this is the problem…

Gator, Is she from Boston MA, I think I recognize her. (The lack of a fourth set of grand parents is a major problem.)
There is a certain pattern here. I can imagine a very traumatic experience that could scar a man for life. I see how it could be the problem …
All I’m saying is that if it takes this long to get dressed for work, a pragmatic Scot will not want to do it again the same
daymonth. It’s just too much effort. Now, there are other options. I don’t insist a man has to get undressed for every such encounter. It’s just that one has to get his priorities right. This video shows a real life Scottish man getting ready to go to the office:

Full disclosure: I am descended from the Clan Macrae.
This secluded and primitive tribe were remarkable for their great size and courage, and it is recorded that one Duncan Macrae, who lived in the beginning of the 18th century, had such amazing strength, that he carried for some distance a stone of immense size, and laid it down on the farm of Achnangart, where it is yet to be seen. He rendered himself famous by recovering stolen cattle from the reivers of Lochaber, either belonging to himself or his neighbours. He was the author of several poetical pieces, and was killed, with many of his clan, at Sheriffmuir in 1715. His claymore, long preserved in the Tower of London, was shown as “the great Highlander’s sword.“

Though I’ve never worn a kilt, or skirt, or dress… yet. 😆
Yet? That sounds like a non-violent threat.

That’s what I mean! The Chileans have perfect breeding conditions with all that fresh snow and I’m sure the Argentinians don’t want to be outdone.
I saw this story and clicked on the clickbait: HERE
I’m no expert on Antarctic weather but a record temperature of 17.5C, at MIDNIGHT? Have a look at the second graphic. The next midnight is -5C, the one after is -7.6C. Are they sure they didn’t have a jet engine pointing at the thermometer at that particular moment?
Weather Underground does seem to attract ‘bears of little brain’. This climate moron seems to think that an hour of Föhn wind is going to melt the WAIS:

I wonder what the effect of this record Antarctic warmth and associated possible collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (which happens to lie just to the south of the Antarctic Peninsula) will be on the thermohaline circulation. If it manages to send enough fresh water cascading into the Pacific to enhance the El Niño… Yeah, this could be interesting.
It now appears unstoppable.
I think it will have about as much effect as firing up the barbecue grill there for a couple of hours.
If I hold a lighter under a thermometer in the Antarctic, I could legitimately say “the highest temperature ever in the Antarctic was recorded today!” Just trying to think outside of the box.

With the last two brutal winters and the upcoming climate conference, I think the Washington Post and many others are desperate for anything that seems in the slightest to possibly support global warming.
not related to anything but check out this guy’s data on various subjects.
I particularly like the volcanic page.

Global warming is now capable of guerrilla warfare. It can sneak up on unsuspecting locations and raise the temperature by .8 degrees for a few minutes right when the average temperature is being calculated.
The impact will be devastating if we realize it has happened.
Let me know when global warming adherents adopt a ‘believe or die’ at the point of a sword approach, like some other popular religion. Right now, people only lose their jobs, not their lives, if they refuse to believe. And here I thought we had ‘freedom of religion’ in the USA and that the first amendment prohibited the government from establishing a religion.

KICUCULA, Uganda — According to the company’s proposal to join a United Nations clean-air program, the settlers living in this area left in a “peaceful” and “voluntary” manner.
People here remember it quite differently.
“I heard people being beaten, so I ran outside,” said Emmanuel Cyicyima, 33. “The houses were being burnt down.”
Other villagers described gun-toting soldiers and an 8-year-old child burning to death when his home was set ablaze by security officers.

“If a penguin farts in a valley and no MMTS is around to record it, does it make it warmer?”
Written by journalists. Not the sharpest spoons in the drawer. Have to take off their socks to count past ten so we shouldn’t be surprised they can’t figure this out, even though the avergage 6 year old could do it.
WASHINGTON – The United States pledged Tuesday to cut its greenhouse gas emissions up to 28 percent as part of a global treaty aimed at preventing the worst effects of climate change, the White House said.

The White House safed the world.
Translation: Obummer wants to cut the US economy by 30% this will jack the real unemployment from 24% to 30%? 40%? 50%?
We are already to the point of courting brownouts or blackouts. The last three corporations I worked for would lose thousands if not millions when the power went out. (Foundry making aircraft turbine blades, continuous process plastics manufacture.)
These corporations would have to have private electric generations or move to another country.
Reliable power is one of the few competitive advantages left for some US industry. Take that away and the industrial strip-mining will be complete. The last barrier to shipping those jobs to low-tax jurisdictions will disappear with the reliable power grid.

Wait… WHAT???
“DOWN SLOPE WARMING EVENT” ???
Is that what we in the west call a “Chinook”??? A short-lived compressive heating of air flowing down hill???
By the Capital Weather Gang’s own ridiculous standard, the Potomac River being totally ice and snow covered in DC during March, for the first time in recorded history, should be scientific proof that we are headed into an Ice Age. But no! It is just jetstream disruption due to global warming.
South Dakota hold the record for the fastest rise in temperature.

Must have been a warm exhaust stream from the diesel generator 😉
“How anyone could be dense enough to believe this has anything to do with global warming, defies explanation.”
Grasping for straws? With blinders on. Not unusual these days.
I wish we had a heat wave like that here on the East Coast.
