Arctic sea ice volume loss dropped again yesterday, so I am pushing my ice free-Arctic forecast date out to September 28, 2018 at 11:39 PM. There won’t be any sunlight on that date, but Reggie will be out there with his blowtorch.
Note that my forecast is quite conservative compared to our leading climate scientists – who believe the Arctic has been ice-free for the past five years.
“our projection of (an ice-free Arctic in) 2013 is already too conservative.”

On the other hand, with cold weather in the forecast, the Arctic sea ice minimum volume could end up second or first highest in the DMI record.
Ice volume melt rates have dropped 65% to their lowest level since early June.
